Training is the hard part.⠀

Early alarms.⠀
Sore legs.⠀
Running when you don’t feel like it.⠀
Saying no to plans so you can show up for your goals.⠀

That’s where the real work happens.⠀

Race day isn’t the hardest moment — it’s the celebration of everything you’ve already done.⠀

The marathon isn’t the challenge.⠀
It’s the victory lap.⠀

And sometimes, especially over a distance as long and unpredictable as a marathon, things don’t go the way you planned. That’s part of it too.⠀

Every race — good or tough — is an opportunity to learn, grow, and prepare for the next start line.⠀

Because this was never just about one race.⠀
It’s all part of the journey. 🏃‍♀️⠀

We can spend so much time thinking about meditation that we forget to actually meditate.⠀

We research techniques.⠀
We look for the perfect app, the right posture, the best method.⠀
We convince ourselves it must be more complicated than simply sitting and breathing.⠀

Type A minds — I see you 👀⠀

We want the steps, the secrets, the optimisation.⠀
Meanwhile, days pass… and we never begin.⠀

Often the biggest barrier isn’t meditation itself — it’s the story that we need to do it perfectly before we start.⠀

Meditation is simple.⠀

Sit down.⠀
Rest your hands in your lap.⠀
Take a slow breath in.⠀
Pause.⠀
Let the breath move naturally.⠀
Breathe out.⠀

Notice the breath.⠀
When the mind wanders (because it will), gently begin again.⠀

That’s it.⠀

And maybe this isn’t just about meditation.⠀
How often do we overcomplicate the very things that could support us — starting, resting, creating, changing?⠀

Sometimes the practice is simply to begin.⠀

Not every emotion around you needs a response.⠀

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is stay grounded in your own peace instead of getting pulled into someone else’s storm.⠀

You don’t have to match chaos with chaos.⠀
Protect your energy.⠀
Choose calm.⠀
Stay steady.⠀

Run to fall in love with your body and all it can do.⠀

Not for pace.⠀
Not for distance.⠀
Not for how it looks.⠀

Run to build strength, resilience, and trust in yourself.⠀
To remind yourself that your body is capable of more than you think.⠀

The goal isn’t perfection.⠀
It’s learning to work with your body instead of against it.⠀

Run because your body can — and that alone is worth celebrating.⠀

They aren’t things we need to earn or achieve — they are already there. We are born with them. What matters is how we nurture them.⠀

Mindfulness is a place to begin.⠀
Simply noticing the moments when we benefit ourselves or others.⠀

The small things count more than we realise.⠀
Helping someone who stumbles.⠀
Giving up a seat.⠀
Offering a smile.⠀
Pausing long enough to recognise: that was kindness.⠀
That was our good nature in action.⠀

Another way to strengthen these qualities is through gratitude.⠀
Not forced positivity — just learning to see clearly.⠀

Maybe it’s three things each day.⠀
Write them down.⠀
Text a friend.⠀
Say them out loud.⠀

Gratitude helps balance what we see. The world can feel heavy when we are constantly shown stress, conflict, and negativity. But the full picture also includes generosity, care, and quiet moments of goodness happening all around us.⠀

When we notice both — the challenges and the kindness — we build confidence in our ability to create harmony within ourselves and with others.⠀

The good qualities we’re searching for aren’t somewhere else.⠀
They’re already here. We just practice remembering them.⠀

Week 15 of training for the Ballarat Marathon — one week out.⠀

This was meant to be taper week, but there honestly wasn’t much running happening. My legs have felt tight, heavy and really sore all week. The kind of sore that makes you question whether you’ll actually be able to run well on race day.⠀

After one run early in the week that didn’t feel great, I decided not to force it. According to ChatGPT, what I’m feeling sounds like deep accumulated fatigue and a bit of tissue overload after months of consistent training — which actually makes sense.⠀

So this week became about recovery instead of pushing through. ⠀

Sauna every second day, Epsom salt baths on the alternate days, a few walks, one gentle spin on the stationary bike, and I finished the week with a swim. Our local pool has been closed for renovations and I’ve really missed it, so I drove 30 minutes to another one — and it was worth it. Swimming always helps me reset. Head under. Noise gone. Rhythmic movement. ⠀

The plan for this final week is: rest, massage, fuel properly, carb loading, and hopefully arrive at the start line feeling better than I do right now.⠀

Trusting the taper… even when it feels uncomfortable.⠀

Many young people today have experienced significant stress.⠀
But what many *haven’t* had enough of are manageable, everyday challenges — the small moments of discomfort that quietly build resilience.⠀

When we remove all low-level stress, we unintentionally take away opportunities for growth.⠀
A nervous system becomes adaptive not through avoidance, but through safe exposure — stress that stretches a child just enough to learn, adjust, and recover.⠀

Growth happens when challenges are *felt*, supported, and worked through.⠀

In a world of instant distraction, it’s easy — for all of us — to turn toward devices, entertainment, or quick escapes the moment discomfort appears. While distraction can offer temporary relief, it can also prevent young people from learning that difficult emotions are survivable and temporary.⠀

When children feel overwhelmed, adults often step in to rescue or reduce expectations. Yet sometimes this sends an unintended message: you can’t handle this.⠀

What they often need instead is guidance to understand what’s happening inside them —⠀
to recognise emotions, notice how stress shows up in the body and behaviour, and learn how to respond with awareness rather than avoidance.⠀

The Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens program supports young people to:⠀
✨ notice when things feel hard⠀
✨ understand their emotional experience⠀
✨ discover what they truly need in the moment⠀
✨ respond with kindness, courage, and self-compassion⠀

Resilience isn’t built by removing struggle or distracting from it.⠀
It’s built by helping young people learn they can move through it — supported, capable, and understood.⠀

It’s all about perspective.⠀

Before you start tearing yourself down, read this.⠀

You don’t need a completely new plan.⠀
You need a different way of seeing things.⠀

One rough run doesn’t define you.⠀
A skipped run doesn’t undo your progress.⠀
You’re still in it.⠀

Consistency isn’t about being perfect every day — it’s about coming back. Listening to your body. Resetting when you need to. Beginning again when you’re ready.⠀

Very relevant for me right now.⠀
Maybe it’s relevant for you too.⠀
