Another painting which needs to be experienced! I wish for this painting to continue summoning the magic from which it was crafted - for it to be used as a portal into expansive realms of knowing and feeling. Perspective and light must be shifted to fully perceive it, and so I hope the light and perspectives of the one who takes it home will likewise shift and shimmer.

I want to reverently and respectfully acknowledge the Yugambeh (-language speaking) People/s of the Land on which I currently reside, and the sovereign custodians of the regions I frequent: the Yuggera, Turrbal, Ugarapul and Gubbi Gubbi People.
I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging. I express deep gratitude for the languages, musical and oral traditions, art/s, dance/s and sacred Lore of the world's oldest living cultures. So-called Australia belongs to, and has always been in the care and protection of, all its First Peoples throughout history and prehistory.
Always was - Always will be - Aboriginal Land.

What goes into a painting? Quite a bit!
I often say, everything begins with a scribble.
You can see, early on, how I use the white of the blank canvas to mark out the clouds, and the light in the water and sky (a common watercolour technique). I eyeball the perspective, and after the foundations are laid, it's all just very elaborate, delicate colouring-in. Landscapes like this, with low sun reflected in water, are some of my favourites to paint. There is something very ethereal and tranquil about the sky being mirrored in a calm body of water. The little stone cottage made it that bit more scenic. This place, depicted, doesn't exist, but there are many shores and homes like it. Thinking of that, looking at this piece, gives me a great deal of comfort.
