I have just done another online learning certificate with the ALA and this one was on Red Legs Syndrome caused by Lympedema. it is a medical condition and an appointment with your GP is recommended.
A few things you can do to help are foot pumps. You can do these in bed or while you are sitting - with your feet elevated. Try doing them hourly for a few minutes while you are awake. The action is to move your feet backwards and forwards like you are kicking.
And a device that is recommended is an Electro Muscle Stimulating mat or machine as these create the pumping action in your calves (known as the 2nd heart ) and this in turn, stimulates the lymph flow.
We do have 2 registered professional Lymphatic Therapists here in the Bay and they are at Corlette and Anna Bay. Their details are on the Australian Lymphology Association's website.
Meantime, as part of your general health regime, Manual Lymphatic Drainage should be part of your plan. Call us today for more information.

If you suffer from chronic pain, the massage best suited for you would be deep relaxation mixed with some gua sha and hot stones. The neurology of Chronic pain is an over stimulus of the cerebral cortex in our brains that keeps the nervous response department’s gateway open as a ‘just in case’ reaction that has become imbedded in the brain. Creating more pain in any treatment may give relief for a very short period of time but to get a better outcome, soft to medium pressure is advisable. Soothing, calming relaxation assists in retraining the brain to not be so reactive. Our deep relaxation experts at The Cottage are Yasmaheena and Janine.

Dry brushing is a good way to do a home lymphatic treatment. Always start with some deep diaphoretic breathing and relax . Begin your brushing gently on your abdomen and then move to the other areas of your body. When you do your arms or legs, start at the top (proximal to the body) and work down to the fingertips and toes (distal from the body). Its an invigorating treatment and really makes your skin zing!

For successful Manual Lymphatic Drainage, it is important to work systematically, pumping the lymph from proximal to distal towards the closest terminus.
It is recommended to have six treatments starting with 2 the first week and then weekly for the next four. For post operative or Liposuction - the amount of treatments will be advised by your specialist

These are the important steps in any Manual Lymphatic Drainage treatment. Firstly, to clear the lymph terminus/ junction points in the body at the start of the treatment to ensure they are ready to take the extra flow of lymph from your treatment.
The movements have to be gentle so that you don't squash the flow of the lymph. They have to slow to allow for the lymph to get away. And the action is to stretch then pump the skin.
It will stimulate the lymphatic flow by 20 times its normal rate. Aside from post operative recovery, boosting the immune, detoxification and relieving congested lymph, it promotes healthy, well hydrated, firm and glowing skin.
