DIY Bioplastic Suncatchers
There's a special kind of joy in creating something beautiful together as the sun shines.
Ingredients:
- purple crayons (various shades including light purple, teal, navy)
- Clear plastic sheets (laminating sheets or clear report covers)
- Parchment paper
- Pressed flowers (fully dried)
- Twine or string
- Wooden beads (optional)
Directions:
1. Start by peeling the paper from your crayons. Use a sharpener or a knife to shave the crayons into thin flakes, mixing shades for a lovely depth.
2. Lay out a piece of parchment paper on a heat-safe surface and place a plastic sheet on top.
3. Sprinkle a thin layer of the crayon shavings evenly across the plastic.
4. Next, arrange your pressed flowers on top of the shavings, gently pressing them down.
5. Cover everything with another plastic sheet and protect it with more parchment.
6. Using a hairdryer on high heat or by preheating your oven to 250°F, melt the crayons fully until they blend beautifully.
7. Allow it to cool for about 20–30 minutes until it hardens completely.
8. Once cooled, cut the mixture into shapes that bring you joy.
9. Use a hole punch to make a small hanging hole at the top of each suncatcher.
10. Finally, thread a piece of twine through the hole and hang your creation in a sunny window.
As you guide your little ones through this delightful process, remember that it's not just about creating art, but also about making memories that will shine bright for years to come.
Make a memory today, not just a mess.
