Matilda sleeping peacefully in the sun. She had 5 teeth out yesterday and is clearly comfortable today. Thanks Dr Robin Crisman at Somersby Animal Hospital for looking after our little old lady so well. At age 22-and-a-quarter she is 5 years older than the oldest Swamp Wallaby on record. Happy and healthy.
It's not every day that your family of Komodo Dragons have a vet visit!

Jeremy had a mass on his ear removed yesterday. Cell sample off for testing. We made the most of his sedation and trimmed his tusks and hooves. Jezza spent today being spoilt in recovery. โค๏ธ Back with his piggy friends tmw. Our thanks to Dr Robin Crisman and team at Somersby Animal Hospital for their expertise and compassion as always. With over 200 rescue animals under our care at WPF, your support is critical. Thank you.โค๏ธ
OUR RANGERS' WORLD: A cold and wet all-nighter outdoors over the Easter long weekend with a sick animal is part of the job description.
UPDATE: Zoe the Kangaroo is back on her feet and out of danger, although still weak and wobbly. She was either bitten by something venomous or ate something toxic. She needed round the clock nursing and intravenous anti-tox meds, but hospital would have been too frightening for her.
Thankyou Somersby Animal Hospital doctors for ALWAYS being there when our animals and Rangers need you.
I HAVE HAD THE BEST 6 STAR EXPERIENCE FROM THE MOST UNLIKELY OF PLACES AND IT IS THE BEST 6 STAR EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!
I hope the photo is something you can see and read.
Recently one of our rescue Labradors Oakley had to be taken to the vet and put to sleep. She was the most beautiful soul and it was very sad and traumatic for our family. The vet that we use for our 3 dogs are always awesome and have been amazing with all 3 of our dogs.
Including Mason our bin diving other rescue Labrador who is now known as the Vicks dog as he raided the medicine basket on one kitchen raid and ate about 15 vicks lollies that all came out when they emptied his stomach (all packets were empty??)
They were simply amazing the day we carried Oakley in and did everything they could to make us feel comfortable with Oakley in the room and what was going to happen. Both my daughters insisted on coming which I was very proud of them for. It was a really hard day and they made it so easy and stressless for us (including exiting a side door for privacy). They even said don't worry about the bill we will contact you in a few days to sort that out.
We had Oakley cremated and they took care of all of that as well. So a few days later they called us not to just receive payment but first to ask us how we were all doing and tell us how special they thought Oakley was. Super Impressed at this stage.
On Tuesday we received the card in the photo (little rain damaged) and the little card for if we needed additional help. Everyone that works at the vet has signed the card and written something nice. WE WERE TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY AND SO VERY TOUCHED BY THIS CARD.
This is the best 6 Star service I have ever received in my life. Thank you SOMMERSBY ANIMAL HOSPITAL you are amazing and we could never thank you enough for what you have done for Oakley and our Family XOXO

Derrick the Tasmanian Devil undergoes groundbreaking cataract surgery!
Derricks surrogate dad, Keeper Hewin, first noticed Derrick was losing his sight when small, milky white dots appeared in his eyes. They very quickly grew, and it became apparent that Derrick could no longer see.
Somersby Animal Hospital Vet, Dr Robin Crisman, quickly identified the cloudy coloured pupils and loss of sight were the result of cataracts and referred us to the specialist team Eye Clinic For Animals. Dr Kelly Caruso, surgeon at Eye Clinic for Animals, met with the team from Aussie Ark and did some preliminary testing to determine the severity of the cataracts. Following these preliminary tests, it was determined Derrick would need surgery to have any chance at being able to see again.
Following a 4 hour surgery to remove the cataracts, Derrick has been back with Keeper Hewin who has been giving him lot's of extra love and care and monitoring his recovery! We're happy to report that Derrick has aced every check up with his veterinary team and will soon join the rest of his siblings back up at Aussie Ark!
Elvis. Home from the vets and doing brilliantly. โค๏ธ Thank you everyone, we will keep you updated. Deb โค๏ธ๐๐ผโค๏ธ Somersby Animal Hospital

๐ฅBreaking good news๐ฅ Mr Jonesโ injured eye is healing well. Mr Jones is blind other than some limited vision in one eye. Back in early July, he badly injured that eye. We wanted to save the little sight he has if we could so, after surgery, hospitalisation and weeks and weeks of meds and care, stabled in dim light 24/7, his eye looks really good. He can open without any pain or discomfort now. Vet check this week. Mr Jones is a patient champion. Thank you all for donating to his vet expenses. We wouldnโt be where we are today without your support.โค๏ธ๐๐ผโค๏ธ And much thanks to Dr Georgia and team at Somersby Animal Hospital. ๐๐ผ
Little Willow had her damaged left eye removed late last week. We had to wait until she was strong and old enough to withstand the anaesthesia/operation. Willow arrived here back in June with injuries sustained to her jaw and eye - she was also very weak and poorly (see 3rd image). Now she is happily bounding around the sanctuary with Archie and Percy the piglet in hot pursuit. Animals are amazing. Thanks as always to the team at Somersby Animal Hospital โค๏ธ
Desexed today and still smiling.โค๏ธ๐ฝโค๏ธThanks to the team at Somersby Animal Hospital for their compassion and dedication to all animals.โค๏ธ๐ท๐ฎ๐ด๐๐๐โค๏ธ

This little one has just come into our care. Weak and very poorly with injuries sustained to her eye and jaw, she went straight to our vets. Sadly her left eye couldnโt be saved but she is doing so much better in herself. Thanks to volunteers Alex and Immy for transporting the little one, Brandon for alerting us to her plight and Lydia for her initial care. And Dr Georgia at Somersby Animal Hospital for providing urgent medical treatment. Compassion is contagious.โค๏ธ๐๐ผโค๏ธ Updates on her progress soon. Please donate to our annual fundraiser to help us help the animals.
