Step Up in May had started.

Day 1
Today was a walk through nature in a local park. Step Up in May helped to draw me away from my computer and other household distractions and plan time to look after me!

2 weeks ago, I would have written that it’s my goal to walk every day in May. However, after reading James Clears book Atomic habits I realise that I don’t need to achieve a goal of getting fitter but to refocus on what I want my identity to be

If I think about what I want my identity to be… eg. A healthy fit person in their 40’s…. And work back from that identity to behaviours that such a person would choose… regular daily exercise being one of those factors… I will build a habit that lasts longer than 30 days!

Looking forward to making daily walks a regular part of my identity through small but consistent steps this May!

How about you?

Working mainly with people with Parkinson's Disease for the last 3 years at my practice Regain Life Physiotherapy is certainly providing more opportunities than I dreamed were possible. Thanks to zoom I see patients around Australia, with a few overseas.
In May I am taking part in StepUp in May with Parkinson's NSW, -standing alongside some of my disciplined and courageous NSW clients.

Anyone can join my team... (that's code for you- you're welcome;) ) let's face it we all need to move more. And sometimes, as the weather is turning colder and less sunlight beckons you outside, having a possie to hold you accountable is a good thing to stay focused on what matters and stop couch curse or devices cunningly stealing your time from you.

Donations are also appreciated through the link below.

Fun fact 1 # mid life exercise in your 40's and 50's correlates to a reduced risk of Parkinson's later in life.

#3 walking on sunshine ☀️
Download from Spotify, move, groove & feel good!

You would have heard about repurposing drugs as a research technique... I am repurposing coaching philosophy from a conference by Tony Robbins

He states, “our Emotions drives our Motion” ... if you are sad or worried you adopt that in your body posture and mood...if you are happy and confident... you move in a different way...Let’s go team... find your JOY...Let’s flip Parkinson’s on its head...
How...? I hear you say....
By you initiating the emotions you want and adopting body postures that reflect that, music that drives that mood, exercise that helps to flick those physiological switches...!!

Well day 1 of the Parkinson’s 27 walks in Oct challenge is done!
I am happy to say I exceeded my goal with a walk for 30 min with my husband, 2 laps running around the block with my son... it’s been a while since I’ve been jogging so starting small.. and a walk with the kids and their friends all socially distanced over lunchtime!!
Each day I am posting a song to groove to in private...
I am not the best dancer... but moving to music is so good for our body and soul... and music can access different brain pathways that drives happy chemical reactions in your brain.. so groove like no one’s watching and stretch and flex and loosen tight spaces and tension whilst having fun... just try it... trust me you’ll love it!
