Post 3 29/04/2026 — The NDIS was never meant to operate like a corner shop

The NDIS was never designed to operate like a corner shop.

This is a taxpayer-funded system supporting vulnerable people — not a marketplace where anyone can step in, cut corners, and get paid.

In my last post, I spoke about where people get caught out.
This sits above that.

Because the real issue isn’t just individual mistakes — it’s how the system is being approached.

When public funds are involved, the expectation should be clear:
accountability, transparency, and proper compliance.

There are many providers doing the right thing.
But there are also too many operating without structure, without oversight, and without delivering what participants are actually funded for.

Registration alone won’t eliminate that.

But stronger compliance, clearer expectations, and consistent enforcement will reduce it.

At its core, this isn’t about registered vs unregistered.

It’s about whether providers are:

• Delivering what they claim
• Acting in the participant’s best interest
• Providing consistent, reliable support

Because that’s what the system is meant to deliver.

Not shortcuts. Not inconsistency. Not guesswork.

Real support, delivered properly.

NDIS Changes — Where people are actually getting caught out

A few good questions came through on my last post, so I’ll take it one step further.

What I’m seeing isn’t people running into issues because of their diagnosis.

👉 It’s happening because the evidence doesn’t clearly show what’s going on day-to-day.

This is what that looks like in real situations:

• A report confirms anxiety or ASD — but doesn’t explain what the person can and can’t do independently
• One practitioner says things are “stable”, another says support is needed — but it’s not aligned
• Supports are in place, but there’s no clear link to goals or what they’re actually addressing

On paper, everything can look fine.

But when it’s reviewed, the gaps start to show.

👉 That’s when questions come up:
– Why is this support needed?
– What is it actually doing?
– How does it link back to the person’s day-to-day life?

And if those answers aren’t clear, that’s where pressure builds.

I’m also noticing more focus now on how supports are being used.

Not just what’s approved — but whether it’s clearly linked to an outcome.

That outcome isn’t always “capacity building”.

For some people, especially those with more complex or permanent conditions, the focus is maintaining function, safety, and quality of life.

👉 And that’s completely valid.

But even in those situations, it still needs to be clearly explained in the evidence:
– What the support is doing
– Why it’s needed
– How it meets the person’s circumstances

There’s a real balance between:
âś” choice and control
âś” making sure supports remain reasonable and necessary

No panic needed — but this is where things need to be clear, consistent, and properly explained.

NDIS Changes — What actually matters right now

There’s been a lot of discussion around recent NDIS changes this week.

Here’s the part that actually matters if you’re a participant or support worker:

The system is shifting toward functional impact — not just diagnosis.

👉 What does that mean?
It’s no longer enough to say what condition you have
You need to show how it impacts your functional capacity day-to-day

This is where things often go wrong:

* Reports don’t clearly link to daily function
* Evidence isn’t aligned across practitioners
* Supports aren’t justified properly

The result? Confusion, delays… and sometimes reduced supports.

This doesn’t happen overnight — but the direction is clear.

👉 What you can do now:

* Make sure your reports clearly explain functional impact
* Keep your support notes consistent and evidence-based
* Align your practitioners (OT, psych, GP) — not working in silos

No panic needed — just better structure and preparation.

👉 If you’re trying to make sense of this or want to tighten things up early, follow along. I’ll keep breaking this down in plain language.
