Cortisol! We've heard excess or elevated cortisol in our body wreaks havoc on nerous systems, sleeping patterns, ability to relax and so the list goes on.

I've personally found excess cortisol has also created pain from contracted muscles in my body that just won't fully relax, particularly in my neck and shoulders.

Prevention is better than a cure right? So STOP STRESSING! Well that's easier said than done!

I exhausted all my normal tools to help ease the pain in my neck and shoulders but didn't find any lasting relief....

I kept reading about somatic healing as part of my yoga teacher training. I decided to tried a somatic practice from Daily Om to check it out for myself. This practice was awesome and teaches you how to release excess cortisol which is a great remedy when you can't stop streeing! It worked wonders for me.

Feeling a little heavy and stuck? Sometimes all you need to do to move this feeling is find a spot in nature and just breath. Breath in the air around you and be the grateful for that moment.

A practice in gratitude can be deeply transformational as it shifts you into a place of appreciation and lifts your vibration.
A gratitude practice can be as simple as acknowledging three things a day to be grateful for or keeping a journal to record them.

My favourite gratitude practice is sitting in nature for 5 minutes and being grateful to mother earth for sustaining me and sending her love for 5 breaths, being grateful for body for carrying me through this life, by sending it love for 5 breaths, being grateful for my spirit for energising and guiding me, by sending it love for 5 breaths, being grateful for my family and friends for their support and friendship by sending love to them collectively for 5 breaths and then being grateful for rest of the day for the pleasure and treasure it holds.

Practice this for five consecutive days and feel your energy rise :).

Something to reflect on...
I found some home truths in this post and on reflection what has caused my own sense of feeling 'sold out by other emotionally'. You can't be sold out if you've never been brought emotionally!

HEALING THE DISEASE TO PLEASE

I had no idea that I was a People-Pleaser until I was 40 years old.

We are not born as People-Pleasers. We are made to become it. We are forced to learn to beg for love. When we experience abuse in our childhood, we have to find a way to stay safe. We try to please those around us so they don't feel the need to become abusive towards us.

We grow up believing that in order to be safe, we must give. We must beg for love. It becomes ingrained in us that our self-worth is dependent on how good we are to other people.

On the shadow side of People-Pleasing, we learn to become manipulative. We become conditioned to give in order to receive.
Everything is twisted in the mind of the People-Pleaser. We see ourselves and the world through the lens of self-sacrifice.

Everything revolves around survival. Staying alive.

But all can change once we begin to understand ourselves on a deeper level. Becoming compassionate towards ourselves is the first step towards healing the disease to please.

And what changes is not the Doing and the Giving. What changes is the intention behind the Pleasing. What changes is the way we begin to feel about ourselves.

Because once we learn self-love, we understand that we don't need to give to be loved. Love cannot be bought.

It is not an easy journey. There is a paradigm that must be shattered and another one that will be created. We shatter the illusion of feeling insignificant unless we care for others. We create the new paradigm of self-worth based on giving for the simple reason that it feels good.

As a recovered People-Pleaser, I can tell you that people-pleasers are extremely giving and generous.

They have huge hearts.

They just have to learn to believe it.........................................................

A practice when you are feeling overwhelmed, emotional or confused.
Emotions, especially ones that have been label as negative like anger, hate, despair, shame, envy etc. are indictors of an aspect of yourself that needs love and acceptance. Pushing these emotions away by directing them towards someone or something else or covering them up with an activity that is unhealthy and pushes them down further keeps them from being digested in a healthy way and them locks away from that inner part of ourselves that is whole and unconditionally loving (the part of us it is seeking). The below practise will help you digest these emotions with love and acceptance.
If you still feel these emotions after this practise or they intensify, don’t be afraid to seek further help from someone you trust or a professional.
Also screaming into a pillow is very acceptable too 😊 (you might like to do that first to lessen the intensity of the emotion). Just remember to burn some incense and smudge the pillow with the smoke to clear that energy or shake the pillow outside in the fresh air and leave it in the sunlight for a few hours. Love and Forgiveness Meditation
A meditation that focusses on your wellbeing by releasing the ill feelings you are carrying for someone who has caused you pain in the past or present.

This little gem will help you move and change your current pain cycle into something more neutral, but it’s not an easy one.

A great way to start this practise, is to break it down into small chunks, by using Step No.5 for 2 or 3 breaths only, and then moving on to Step 6.

You can practise this meditation frequently (suggest doing it everyday for one week for the same person or situation) and every time you do, you can increase the amount of loving breaths in Step 5. before moving on to Step 6.

Before long, you’ll be free of the pain, resentment and feeling much better :)!

The uncomfortable doesn't go away when we fight it.

Befriend it, sit with it, validate it, hold space for it and allow it simply to be. Things will unfurl more naturally and easily from that position.
