Call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for health advice 24/7. Gold Coast Private Hospital is a 314-bed acute hospital operated by Healthscope. It was built brand new and opened in 2015 when its incarnation, Allamanda Private Hospital, moved all its operations to the new facility.

One of the many benefits of building a new hospital from scratch is the ability to design with the future in mind.

Opened in 2015, Gold Coast Private Hospital was carefully considered to ensure it could seamlessly expand, evolve and adapt to the changing needs of our region and community.

Over the years, that vision has become reality. As our community has grown, so too has our hospital with the opening of new wards and theatres, and the addition of new services and emerging technologies, ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional healthcare, close to home.

"Midwifery isn't just a job to me, it's a calling." These are the words of National Graduate of the Year, Tara Peirce, who was crowned the title at the ACE Awards at The GABBA.

Tara says midwifery is the most rewarding, fulfilling profession with endless opportunities for growth.

"The learning never stops and there is always more to understand, refine and improve," says Tara.

"I'm so lucky to work within a collaborative and compassionate team in a maternity unit that is so nurturing and supportive. Gold Coat Private is filled with dedicated, like-minded professionals who inspire me daily and being surrounded by such a positive team enhances the quality of care we provide, and makes coming to work a dream."

The HESTA Excellence Awards recognise exceptional achievements in a range of settings across aged care, allied health, community services and disability services.

Congratulations Tara. We are so pleased you answered the midwifery call and chose to come to Gold Coast Private.

NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture and resilience. The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” celebrates the achievements of the past and the bright future ahead.

At Gold Coast Private, we are committed to walking alongside First Nations peoples on their journey of healing and reconciliation - listening, learning and working together for a more inclusive and fair future.

With every story shared, every act of resilience remembered, and every cultural practice celebrated, we honour a legacy that reaches far into the past and extends into the future.

Today, we honoured that legacy and celebrated our local culture and heritage with Traditional Owner, Kombumerri & Quandamooka woman Justine Dillion and dancers from
Kombumerri & Ngarang-Wal people of Kombumerri Country.

Bowel cancer can develop without noticeable symptoms, especially in the early stages.

It’s important to visit your GP without delay if you experience one or more of the following:

- Re**al bleeding or blood in the stool.
- Persistent changes in bowel habits such as diarrhea, constipation or a feeling of incomplete evacuation.
- Unexplained fatigue or weakness, which may indicate anaemia.
- Abdominal pain or cramping.

Early detection, screening and lifestyle choices can significantly reduce the risk and impact of bowel cancer.

It's always easier to chat over tea so, armed with cuppas and cake, we tackled conversations around bowel cancer.

With 1 in 15 Australians diagnosed with bowel cancer during their lifetime, it's crucial to know the symptoms and take advantage of the free National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

If you experience changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss or blood in your stool, seek immediate medical attention. Early detection can make all the difference.

We may have closed up our morning tea stall, but let’s keep the conversation going, because every chat, every shared story and every screening matters.

We all know that bloke — the tough one who never visits the doctor; or that young boy who is in pain but doesn't show it. Let's re-write 'strength'. Let's let men and boys know that there is real courage in talking and taking action.

Many serious conditions - from heart disease to cancer, are treatable when diagnosed early...but too often, men wait until it's too late.

This Men’s Health Week, we’re urging all men and boys to make health a priority:

✅ Schedule that check-up
✅ Talk to a GP about anything unusual
✅ Know your numbers — blood pressure, cholesterol.

Your health matters. You matter.
Let’s break the stigma and normalise looking after ourselves — and each other.
