Our first patient - Vincent Beckley, was one of 73 transferred from Allamanda on March 12, 2016.
The coordinated operation involved ambulance, police and taxis in a true community effort.
In prepartion for the move from Allamanda, our staff performed relocation drills to ensure the smooth and safe transfer of patients.
Meticulous planning was required down to the last detail - from the routes the QAS would take to the new hospital, to timed taxi-retrievals to streamline traffic and patient flow.
A central spreadsheet listing every patient who needed to be transferred was carefully managed throughout the day. As each patient left Allamanda, they were 'checked-out', then 'checked-in' on arrival at GCPH, before being carefully delivered to their new ward.
On transfer day, one team was stationed at Allamanda; another was established at the new hospital.
No equipment needed to be moved, as everything at Gold Coast Private was brand new - from the state-of-the-art technology, to the beds and even the cutlery!
Stuart Coleman‑Thompson, the then-Emergency Care Centre Manager, led the QAS transfers, while Nurse Unit Manager Bernie Stark was in charge of the taxi transfers. Clear communication was key, and it paid off - the day ran smoothly from start to finish!
It was a proud day for our team and the City Of Gold Coast.
