Neurodiversity Celebration Week (17–23 March 2026) is a powerful reminder that different brains are a natural and valuable part of human diversity.

This week, Neurodiverse Therapies is celebrating autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, dyspraxic, dyscalculic, gifted, twice-exceptional, and all other types of neurodivergent people as they are – not “in spite of” their brains, but with the strengths, needs, and patterns that make them who they are.

Neurodiversity-affirming support means listening to lived experience, reducing sensory and cognitive load, offering real accommodations, and valuing regulation over compliance.

If you’re neurodivergent: your way of communicating, feeling, moving, and processing is valid, and you deserve environments that adapt to you – not the other way around. If you’re not neurodivergent, this is your invitation to learn, unlearn, and ask, “How can I make this space more accessible and safer for neurodivergent people?”

As a person living with chronic migraine, it can be a terrible and debilitating disease.

Please don't make it worse by saying unhelpful things that minimise the very real struggles of living with this disease.

Don't say:
It's just a headache.
Think positive!
I know how you feel.
It could be worse.
Just push through it!
Get over it.
At least you're not dying.
At least you don't have a fatal condition or disease.
Have you tried [xyz]?
It will stop when you hit menopause.

I have been grateful to have attended a few events by Life By Eight and have learned so many amazing things. One of the things that I found the most helpful and enlightening so far has been the ENERGETIC BLUEPRINT, which is a comprehensive assessment that maps your personality and preferences across 8 pillars.

According to Life By Eight,
"The most effective way to have a successful life is to build it from a solid foundation. That foundation starts with truth and awareness.
When you understand your Attachment Style - anxious, avoidant or anxious/avoidant (and for some secure), your Love Languages and how you feel loved and appreciated, how you learn best (through hearing, feeling, seeing or thinking), what Values Level you are currently operating from and your Energy Rich Way - and its mapped to your Human Design - you have the strongest foundation in which you can truly design and build a life from - one that is for you and your unique blueprint is used to do it."

If you want to improve your self-awareness and capacity to design your life in alignment with your values, I highly recommend doing the assessment and checking out the events and resources that they offer.

What not to say to people with migraine!

In this video, I talk about March being a big month for disability awareness, visibility and action.

1. There are many forms of disability and neurodivergence - and they occur in a spectrum that varies widely
2. Disabled and neurodivergent people are not problems to fix - we are humans that have real experiences, challenges and we deserve to feel a sense of agency, joy, safety, connection
3. If you are disabled and neurodivergent - your experiences are real and valid, and you deserve to be seen and heard and understood
4. If you are able bodied and neurotypical, you can be an Ally by listening, believing, accepting us and our experiences with curiosity and not judgement

March is a big month for disability awareness, visibility, and action. (https://u.osu.edu/diversabilities/2026/02/27/disability-awareness-month-march/)

This month, Neurodiverse Therapies is honouring our communities living with brain injury, endometriosis, developmental disabilities, self-injury, dissociative identities (DID), dyscalculia, epilepsy, bipolar experiences, and many other forms of disability and neurodivergence. (https://www.nationaldisabilityinstitute.org/press/march-is-developmental-disabilities-awareness-month/)

Disabled and neurodivergent people are not “problems to fix” – we are whole humans navigating systems that were not built with our bodies and brains in mind. When we remove shame and increase access, people can move toward safety, connection, agency, and joy. (https://ndconnection.co.uk/resources/p/nd-affirming-language-guide)

If you are part of these communities: your experiences are real, your needs matter, and you deserve care that listens, believes, and adapts. If you are not, this is an invitation to learn from disabled voices, challenge stereotypes, and ask, “What would make this space more accessible?” (https://ywcaspokane.org/2023-racial-justice-challenge-disability-and-language/)

Sleep is not a luxury for neurodivergent people; it is a core support for the brain and body that can shape how manageable each day feels.

When neurodivergent nervous systems are already working hard to process sensory input, navigate social demands and manage executive functioning, quality sleep can make regulation, focus and emotional resilience more possible. At the same time, neurodivergent people can experience sleep differences or challenges, which can be misunderstood as “bad habits” instead of valid needs that deserve curiosity, accommodations and support.

Prioritising sleep might look like flexible wind-down routines, consistent sleep and/or wake times, sensory-friendly bedrooms, movement or stimming before bed, screens used intentionally, or timing medications carefully to match a person’s unique rhythm. When we understand and honour these differences, we can support neurodivergent people to rest, recover and show up as their authentic selves.
