Our due date for arrival of our babies is coming up very quickly. We don’t muck around at Nine Months & Counting!

We will keep you updated, soon as we know further information on their arrival.

💡So, what is an estimated due date?

An estimated due date for pregnancy is typically calculated based on the first day of the woman's last menstrual period (LMP) and is usually around 40 weeks from that date. This estimation assumes a regular 28-day menstrual cycle and ovulation occurring on day 14.

However, it's important to note that due dates are estimates and can vary based on individual factors such as the length of the menstrual cycle and the exact timing of ovulation. Most healthcare providers will confirm the estimated due date from your LMP or through ultrasound measurements during the first trimester.

The postnatal period – 4th Trimester - a delicate dance of exhaustion and enchantment.

Night’s blur into a symphony of baby cries and lullabies, while days are a whirlwind of diaper changes and sleep-deprived laughter. New parent/s navigate a world where onesies become daily attire, and breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding is both a challenge, along with changing nappies before the little person makes a mess again. Amidst the chaos, there are precious moments – tiny smiles, baby giggles – that transform the fatigue into pure love.

The postnatal chapter, a brief yet intense saga, where every milestone, from burp cloths to first smiles, is a reminder of the profound beauty in the mundane chaos of parenthood.

Stage 3 – Birthing the placenta – the temporary organ.

This is the part where your body decides to throw one last surprise party, just when you thought the main event was over. Don’t worry, the placenta doesn’t have any bones.

After nurturing and crafting life for nine months, it's a moment where you acknowledge the silent hero, applaud its incredible work, and marvel at the magic that grew a human within.

No doubt your midwife or obstetrician will offer you front row seats to see and marvel at the wonders of the placenta.

Giving credit to the placenta in the antenatal period, where it plays a crucial role in facilitating the exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and waste products between the mother's bloodstream and the baby's bloodstream. It also produces hormones that help sustain the pregnancy.

How incredible is the placenta!

*Ask us about delay cord clamping. *Ask us about active or physiological 3rd stage
*Ask us about cord blood donation.
*Ask us about taking your placenta home.

The stages continue..........................

Stage 2: The "Oh My Gosh, I Made a Human"

After an epic battle of endurance, you finally birth your bundle of joy.
You're holding your newborn, simultaneously feeling like a superhero.

Whether you bring your baby into the world through natural pushing, with the aid of a vacuum or forceps, or opt for a planned caesarean section, the method of childbirth can vary. In some cases, unforeseen circumstances might lead to an emergency caesarean section.

Here at Nine Months & Counting we support your birth choices. All delivery methods discussed in detail at our antenatal classes – BOOK NOW via website.

Oh, and you’re not finished yet……. There more to come.

Ah, the stages of labour – Let's embark on this journey together.

Latent phase: The "Is it Happening or Just a False Alarm?"

You're waddling around, convinced every Braxton Hicks contraction is the real deal. Your partner's frantically packing a hospital bag, and you're Googling, "How to speed up labour with dance moves."

Stage 1 - Active labour: Where the real action unfolds, and you morph from a calm, collected human into a warrior phase.

The delivery room is filled with anticipation, as you ride the waves of contractions, with each one getting closer to meeting your new little person. The room might be dimmed with motivational cards, your playlist playing in the background while bouncing on a ball and changing positions frequently. Each position change, encouraging your labour to progress.

Your birth partner, previously assigned the role of "calm birthing coach," is now frantically trying to remember all the breathing techniques from antenatal class.

You may request pain relief at some point of your labour or even have pain relief as soon as possibly able!

Antenatal refers to the period of time during pregnancy before the baby is born.

This can includes regular check-ups with an obstetrician or midwife, ultrasounds, blood tests, and prenatal classes.

The goal of antenatal care is to monitor the health of the parent and growing baby, and to provide education and support to prepare parent/s for childbirth and early parenthood.

Ah, pregnancy trimesters - the 3 stages of pregnancy…….

1st trimester: The "I'm pregnant?!" phase. This is the time when you start experiencing morning sickness, fatigue, and a rollercoaster of emotions. You're trying to wrap your head around the fact that you're growing a tiny human inside you, and you may feel like a walking, talking puke machine.

2nd trimester: The "I'm finally showing!" phase. This is when your bump starts to show, and you can finally start wearing maternity clothes. You may also start feeling those first flutters of movement from your baby, which can be both exciting and terrifying.

3rd trimester: The "Get this baby out of me!" phase. This is when you're big, uncomfortable, and ready to meet your little one. You may experience swelling, back pain, and insomnia, and you'll probably spend a lot of time daydreaming about labour and birth. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, but soon you’ll be meeting your little person.

It's important to note that while the trimesters are a helpful way to break down the pregnancy journey, every woman's pregnancy is unique and may not fit perfectly into these timelines.

Pregnancy is like going on a roller coaster ride with no idea what's coming next. You're excited, nervous, and a little bit queasy all at the same time. You're constantly monitoring your hormone levels, tracking your baby's growth, and experimenting with different foods and positions to see what works best.

Who knew growing a baby is hard work, while also preparing for the arrival of your little bundle of joy. It's like you're on a never-ending scavenger hunt, trying to track down all the baby gear you need and figure out how to put it all together.

And just when you think you've got everything under control, something unexpected happens – like your partner's water breaking in the middle of the grocery store, or realizing you have no idea how to install a car seat. But in the end, it's all worth it when you finally get to hold your new baby in your arms and marvel at the fact that you created this little human being.

At Nine Months & Counting our Midwives are excited to be a part of this roller coaster ride and can't wait to see what twists and turns lie ahead.
