Love meal prepping as the nights gets darker earlier. This is a simple & delicious one pot recipe by Angie Cowen, sweet potato & red lentil dhal. I tripled the recipe, added home made bone broth in place of some of the water, and topped with h**p seeds, sesame seeds and nigella seeds. Soak your lentils the night before in some filtered water + splash of apple cider vinegar. Depending on your goals you may like to serve with some additional protein & veg. Enjoy!

Finally took a photo of a little food prepping in the kitchen before I packed everything away. Getting organised for another busy week ahead in the health food shop & clinic. Having food ready to go is so helpful so I can enjoy eating without having to find something gluten free to eat on the go. Enjoy the last few hours of your weekend whatever it may entail :)

Attended an information filled Australian Traditional Medicine Society seminar on Sunday to learn more about natural medicine and how we can optimise the fertility journey for so many. Such a great lineup of speakers sharing their expertise and the latest research in the field. It was a long day of learning and I look forward to implementing a number of exciting new strategies into my clinical practice. And I even won a lucky door prize at the end (hence the pic of me on stage πŸ˜‚)

A recent webinar I attended by Cobram Estate, included a presentation by Naturopath Ian Breakspear on the benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). It was great to hear that just three tablespoons or 45mL of EVOO daily can benefit health, especially cardiovascular and metabolic health, due to the impressive antioxidant profile. He shared some simple ways we can all be using EVOO in our meals and snacks, including drizzling it over meat & fish, as a base in salad dressings, and even for dipping bread in. I love to add EVOO to all my salads with a splash of balsamic vinegar, and also cook all my meals with it. It is a staple in our house, and really the only oil we use. It is also something I recommend in my nutrition plans, as one of many wonderful inclusions in a Mediterrean and anti-inflammatory style diet.
What's your favourite way to use EVOO?

I've been listening to a number of educational webinars lately and this was a really interesting slide. Studies have found that gut directed hypnotherapy can be just as effective as a low FODMAP diet when it comes to relieving IBS symptoms! If you feel like you have tried eliminating foods (which by the way, should only be a short-term strategy), then this may be something worth exploring. It works because of the the bi-directional relationship between the gut and the brain, and the role that the vagus nerve plays. I’ve been quiet on this page but a busy bee in real life (owning & running a busy health food shop, offering nutrition consults in my clinic and spending time with family) 🐝 A little reminder that the key to good nutrition is BALANCE & CONSISTENCY. Here’s a few snaps of some meals I’ve enjoyed recently (I love food photos). I live for rainbow bowls, especially with vibrant greens. Always include a serve of protein, good fats like avo, and some whole-grains like wild rice! πŸ₯—

It took a little extra effort in the ad breaks of (πŸ˜‚), but lunches & snacks are sorted for hubby and I tomorrow! Have you set yourself up for success? A little time right now will feel/taste so good tomorrow πŸ˜‹ I’ll also have time to go for a little walk first thing in the morning and again at lunchtime instead of working out what to eat (especially having dietary requirements ). If you need help getting on top of your nutrition feel free to get in touch. It does not need to be scary or complicated.

Love a fridge clean out meal! Scrambled eggs with parsley, shallots, h**p seeds, S & P, with canned lentils, chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic and oregano. Delicious and filling and budget friendly. What have you thrown together lately (after looking in the fridge/pantry and thinking there was nothing to eat?) πŸ˜‚

Australians are consuming less than 1 teaspoon of olive oil per day. That's despite a large evidence base that suggests having 25-50ml of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) a day is associated with health benefits, in particular for cholesterol and blood pressure health.

Our recommendation? Aim for 45ml, or 3 tablespoons, of EVOO every day as part of a balanced, healthy diet.
