Research has shown that experiencing childhood trauma can increase the risk of burnout later in life. Burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged or chronic stress.
It can lead to feelings of cynicism, detachment, self-doubt, and physical symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia, and headaches. If left untreated, burnout can have severe consequences.
I see so many clients (and I was myself like this in my past) whose career is DRIVEN from a past trauma of unworthiness.
When this is the case, you can deny yourself time off, seek perfectionism, and constantly feed the beast of "not enoughness" by punishing ourselves through high performance and never feeling satiated by our goals. This can result in a never-ending need to "achieve."
When navigating childhood trauma, we may find it more challenging to cope with everyday challenges or turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
These coping mechanisms can put us into permanent states of fight, flight, fawn or freeze and over long periods of time, the desperate need to find SAFETY causes the burnt out adult to use work, substances, food, s*x and other addictions as escapism to find "freedom" from the torment.
However, it is essential to remember that we can heal from these and that the risk of burnout can be irradicated.
I have used breathwork and rewiring childhood beliefs as a way of healing my case of burnout and I absolutely love to support my clients to find self-regulation again, using these tools and to help them discover a new inner peace and level of self-worth that helps them to seek success from a place of wholeness.
What are your thoughts?
Much Love
