Tomorrow is International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day, a day on which Postvention Australia recognises the grief of people, families, and communities impacted by su***de bereavement, and a day on which we encourage them to build hope and to find support and healing through connection with others.

On this day, please know that you’re not alone. We encourage you to connect with others, and to share your stories and memories of your loved one. This International Day of Awareness creates an opportunity to connect, and to help de-stigmatise conversations about su***de loss.

Postvention Australia advocates for people, families, and communities who have experienced su***de bereavement. Our website provides further information on su***de loss, links to support groups, a directory of support services in NSW, a care pack resource and other educational resources. We’re also working towards the release of a new, online educational resource, which we expect to release very soon.

We'd like to wish all a happy holiday season, and convey a big thank you to our supporters for all contributions in 2024. We're looking forward to 2025, and to continuing our efforts to support people and communities impacted by su***de loss.

We also recognize and acknowledge some this time of year is very challenging. Whatever your experience, we wanted to take this opportunity to remind each of you to be kind to yourselves and each other. Take the time to connect with those you care about and take moments of quiet when needed.

A lot of very important announcements were made over the past two weeks, including the submission of the Royal Commission report into Veteran Su***de; the release of draft advice on Su***de Prevention Strategy by the National Su***de Prevention Office; and importantly World Su***de Prevention Day.

Australia is very excited to announce the launch of SA-IT (Su***de Prevention Intervention Training), an online training module to teach people and communities to be able to speak safely to, and support those at risk of su***de, and to be aware of risk factors and changes in behaviour. The team has put a lot of work into this resource, and we hope that it's of benefit to many and that it builds confidence and capability in the community on things they can do to help prevent su***de.

We join many others in marking World Su***de Prevention day on 10th September, taking time to honor the memories of people lost to su***de, and to acknowledge the grief of people bereaved by su***de. We also acknowledge the work of people, communities, organisations, and government towards su***de prevention. This day also provides opportunities to talk about about su***de prevention and su***de loss, and to join others in community events. Speaking about experiences can help build hope, raise awareness, and support understanding.
