Procrastination is not about discipline.
It is not about laziness.
And it is definitely not something that gets fixed by a better morning routine or a stricter accountability structure.
It is two parts of you in conflict.
One that wants to move forward and one that has very good reasons, usually formed early in life, for making sure you don’t.
That protective part might be carrying the belief that you are not worthy of succeeding.
It might be afraid of what happens when you win, because winning means somewhere to fall from.
It might remember every time outshining the people around you cost you connection or safety.
Or it might simply be protecting an identity that hasn’t been updated since the last time moving forward felt dangerous.
We worked with someone recently who had been ridiculed his entire life.
Underneath the procrastination was a fundamental belief that there was no point in trying because he wasn’t worth it.
That belief didn’t live in his thoughts.
It lived in his body.
And it ran underneath every moment of hesitation.
We didn’t give him goals or systems.
We worked with the part of him carrying that belief until it shifted.
Now he is consistent at the gym, hiking, eating well, doing things purely for the joy of being alive.
This week he felt it in his body. A new identity. One that belongs to him.
That is the work.
