One of my goals for this year was to complete the Noosa training (without stopping).
Far out, what a journey this was … 🥵
The whole PLAN was to train for it.
However, life happened (as it does) and the training never commenced due to personal circumstances, 3 months overseas and calf strains 🦵
Leading into it, I was unsure if I should pull out to minimise injury - but decided to go ahead and look at it as a mental pursuit to push myself.
And, man did it deliver!
First two legs, the swim and bike, were really fun. Loved it, and was in good spirits for the run.
Then it all turned pear shaped.
I hadn’t hit the 1km marker yet, my heart rate wouldn’t go below 195 ❤️, I was heaving and taking the smallest steps I could (see first photo).
This ultimately resulted in walking to try lower my heart rate. And a plethora of negative self talk. I was soooooo upset with myself - the mental dialogue was extreme.
“What were you thinking”
“Served you right for not training!”
“You can’t make this, just quit now”
Even though my goal was technically down the drain, there was no way I wasn’t finishing this race, and a long ass 9km to go..
So, I strapped in, took it 500m at a time, kept walking / running bits and pieces. I had tears rolling down my face from the agony and laughing with the locals at how silly it was that I was crying 😂😭
** Thank you to the man that put his hand on my shoulder and said “ohhh darl” - it was exactly what I needed hahahah
It was TOUGH!!!
So although I didn’t complete it without stopping, I’m still super proud of myself for completing it 🌟
The OG goal to ‘complete a triathlon without stopping’ continues for 2025.
Noosa you’ll be seeing me again next year!
