In your teens/20s (and honestly, early motherhood too), the body often runs a little more sympathetic dominant — go, do, push, survive. Quick dopamine hits. Fast reward. Stress chemistry on tap.
After years of rushing through, the body can often need a moment to slow down again.
And with that slowing can come the return of enjoyed, more satisfying pleasures.
Not the sharp crack.
The slow melt.
DID YOU KNOW: The nervous system can respond to psychological stress and a physical threat using many of the same biological pathways, which all activate the body’s survival response.
So when stress is constant, the nervous system can stay in a protective “on” state — making it harder for the body to slow down.
From a naturopathic lens: taste preference, dopamine signalling, accessibility, blood sugar stability and even mineral status can influence how we experience chocolate.
But, we can also acknowledge that when our nervous system feels safe, we may even tend to crave depth over intensity🌙
No matter what way you enjoy your chocolate, remember to also take moments to enjoy the slow🍫
