Want to take care of your brain? Maintain your blood pressure!

A new study from China finds that keeping your blood pressure below 130/80 is associated with a 15% reduced risk of dementia and a 16% reduction in overall cognitive impairment. https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/blood-pressure-goal-the-number-your-doctor-wants-to-see

Another reason why I take choline daily

It is important that we know our cognitive biomarkers—p-tau 217, GFAP, and NfL—which are together in the blood test BrainScan (getabrainscan.com), and here is yet another reason to be aware of these, just as we should be aware of our hemoglobin A1c, blood pressure, hs-CRP, and ApoB. A new study links obesity, when combined with low choline levels, to increased NfL, reflecting early neurodegeneration. Choline is a key nutrient in our KetoFLEX 12/3 diet, is crucial for memory (as a precursor for the memory neurotransmitter acetylcholine), and is one of the nutrients in which most of us are insufficient. It can help reduce inflammation, reduce homocysteine, and is found in foods like eggs, liver, beans, mushrooms, and cruciferous vegetables. https://www.sciencealert.com/theres-a-surprising-link-between-a-key-nutrient-obesity-and-alzheimers-risk

Disease can be reversed, because usually something in our lifestyle caused it. The trick is working out what caused it for you or what multiple things cause it and eliminate them and then filling your life with all the good things that will help you get better.

It was a long standing root canal 🦷 I only discovered was infected (gangrene) after I had it removed. I wonder with research coming out like this how much this root canal 🦷 has negatively impacted my health in ways that I won’t fully know

The strong link between cognition and oral health is multi-factorial, and includes the oral microbiome, dental amalgams, periodontitis (e.g., with P. gingivalis), and airway patency, among other factors. Oral inflammation can lead to systemic inflammation, which in turn impacts cognition, metabolic disease, and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it is not surprising that new research indicates that root canals (which treat deep tooth infections in the pulp) can lower blood sugar levels. Dentists also observed improvements in patients' cholesterol and fatty acid levels, indicating that addressing this issue has broad benefits for cardiovascular and brain health. However, while about 95% of root canals work well over the long haul, some do undergo repeat infection, which can then contribute to cognitive compromise, so it’s good to be aware of both your need for a root canal and the status of any root canals you have. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2025/nov/18/root-canal-treatment-could-significantly-lower-blood-sugar-levels-study-suggests

I love that you called this out Mel Robbins & Allie K Miller. It’s really worries me how studies are showing women are not adopting AI whilst men are busy adopting it. We are subconsciously holding ourselves back again. It’s once again another situation where women feel like they’re so busy doing stuff that they don’t have time or feel like they’re not technical enough and men once again are jumping ahead. Ironically AI is going to save us time so that isn’t an excuse any more.

But Dementia and Alzheimer's can't be reversed or improved, right? Wrong ... And here are some individual case studies: "Sustained Cognitive Improvement in Alzheimer’s Disease Patients Following a Precision Medicine Protocol: Case Series"

Arguably, the most important parameter in treating cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s disease is the length of time in which improvement, if achieved at all, is sustained. However, monotherapies such as donepezil and memantine are ...
