Join us in congratulating Dr Khilan Shukla for receiving the highest mark in the OMS Foundation Examination. 🎉 The OMS Foundation Exam is a mandatory examination for first-year trainees, which assesses the core knowledge, foundational surgical skills, and professional aptitude of the OMS Training Program.

Read Khilan's journey below:
"I completed my dental degree at James Cook University, my medical degree at Griffith University, and my junior doctor training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. I was fortunate to be offered a training position at the Western Australia OMS training centre in 2025, with two other first years; Dr Elishan Aruliah and Dr David Power.

Moving to another state for surgical training was daunting, but the transition was made significantly easier by the strong support we received from each other, as well as from the senior trainees and consultants within our unit.

After many weeknights and weekends of repeatedly memorising the 28 components of the WHO surgical safety checklist while eating takeaway noodles, the three of us were relieved to learn that we had all passed the Foundation exam.

I would like to extend my gratitude to my family and friends for their unwavering support and guidance during this initial step on the path of surgical training. A sigh of relief, and now on to the next challenge…"
