World Health Day reminds us that better health outcomes do not happen by accident. They are built on evidence, collaboration, trust and science.

From prevention and vaccination, to diagnosis, treatment and safer care experiences, science improves lives every day.

This year’s WHO theme, Together for health. Stand with science., is a timely reminder to back credible evidence, support science-led care, and keep working toward health systems people can trust.

At NeedleCalm, we’re proud to be part of a broader health community focused on making care more accessible, more compassionate, and easier to engage with.

Today we celebrate the people behind progress — researchers, clinicians, public health teams, innovators and advocates.

Sound familiar? 👇

The lead up. Getting the needle. Time. Looking at the needle. Talking about the needle. The thought of it. Uncomfortable thinking about it. The process. The feeling. Thinking about it.

These aren't just niggles — these are the 10 things our patients tell us they hate most about needle procedures. And for 1 in 4 Australians, this fear is enough to make them cancel appointments, avoid vaccinations, delay blood tests and put off the care they need.

At NeedleCalm™, we've spent years working directly with children, teens and adults who have tried everything — hypnotherapy, CBT, breathwork, Va**um, nitrous oxide, schema therapy — and still couldn't get through a needle procedure. We built NeedleCalm™ for them.

✅ TGA-listed (ARTG 344731)
✅ Drug-free — no prescriptions, no waiting
✅ Instant action — works in seconds
✅ Hands-free adhesive pad — no equipment needed
✅ Australian made, invented by a nurse

It works using the body's own pain-gating response — the same science that's been peer-reviewed for 60+ years. Peel. Stick. Press. That's it.

Whether you're a pharmacist, a clinic manager, a parent of an anxious child, or someone who has spent years dreading their next blood test — we'd love to talk.

We need a real human. Urgently. 🙏

So we asked our AI to design us a model today.

This is what it came up with.

We're not sure whether to laugh or cry — but we do know we need YOU. 😅

We're looking for someone living with diabetes who wears a CGM and is due to change their insulin pump port soon, to be part of a NeedleCalm photo shoot in Sydney.

You don't need any modelling experience. You just need to be you — doing what you do every day.

DM us or email enquiries@needlecalm.com.au to put your hand up 💙

P.S. The AI has been spoken to. It will not be designing any more humans.

To everyone who's ever gripped the armrest before an injection.
Looked away. Held their breath. Asked the nurse to count to three.

We see you.

You are not dramatic. You are not weak. Needle anxiety is real, it's recognised, and it affects more people than you know.

NeedleCalm was built for exactly this moment — to make injections calmer, less intimidating, and more manageable. For everyone.

Drop a 💙 in the comments if this is you, or someone you love. We want to make sure we're reaching the right people.

We’re proud to share that Diabetes Shop is now a stockist of NeedleCalm 💙

For many people, a new diabetes diagnosis doesn’t just mean learning new information — it means learning to inject insulin, often daily, sometimes multiple times a day. That’s a big adjustment, and for some, needle procedures can be a real barrier.

Difficulty with injections can impact confidence, particularly in the early stages of diabetes management. When something feels overwhelming or distressing, it’s much harder to build consistent routines.

NeedleCalm was designed to support comfort during injections and help make those early experiences more manageable, calmer, and less intimidating — especially when someone is facing something new.

By being available through the Diabetes Shop, NeedleCalm can now support:

• people new to insulin injections

• parents supporting children with diabetes

• individuals managing chronic injections long term

• improved confidence and consistency with treatment routines

Small supports can make a meaningful difference when someone is learning to live with diabetes.

We’re grateful to partner with Diabetes Shop to help reduce barriers to care and support people to manage their health with greater confidence.

Because when treatment feels more manageable, people are more likely to be consistent and comfortable — and that matters. 💙

💛 Why play matters when kids are worried about needles
For many kids, fear isn’t about the procedure itself — it’s about the anticipation, the loss of control, and not knowing what to expect.
That’s exactly why we created the NeedleCalm Kids Activity Kit.
The kit is designed to support therapeutic play — a simple, evidence-informed way to help children process medical experiences in a safe, age-appropriate way. Through colouring, activities, and guided conversation, kids can explore their feelings, ask questions, and build confidence before a needle procedure happens.
🧠 How therapeutic play helps:
Gives children a sense of control and predictability

Helps them understand what’s coming in a non-threatening way

Reduces anxiety by making the experience feel familiar

Supports emotional regulation before and after appointments

Encourages positive coping skills they can use again next time

When paired with NeedleCalm during the procedure, the activity kit helps turn a stressful moment into a supported experience — not just for kids, but for parents too.
This isn’t about pretending procedures don’t exist.
It’s about preparing, supporting, and empowering children so healthcare feels safer over time.
Because calmer experiences today help build confident healthcare users tomorrow 💚
If your child struggles with needle procedures, small tools — like play, preparation, and comfort — really do make a difference.

Why Medicine Time Can Be So Hard for Kids 💛

(And what actually helps)

If your child resists taking medicine, you’re not alone — and it’s not because they’re being difficult.

Many kids feel anxious around anything that looks medical, including oral syringes. Even though there’s no needle involved, syringes can remind children of injections or blood tests they’ve had before.

One thing parents often don’t realise is that medicine syringes are usually bigger for a reason. Some medicines need a larger volume to work properly. To a child, though, bigger can feel scarier — especially if they’ve had tough medical experiences before.

Add in:
• an unpleasant taste
• feeling out of control
• surprise or rushing
• past fear or distress

…and medicine time can quickly become overwhelming.

💡 What actually helps:

✔ Be honest. Don’t say “it won’t hurt” — explain what will happen in simple, age-appropriate language.
✔ Prepare ahead of time. Talk about medicine before it’s needed so it doesn’t come as a shock.
✔ Use comfort positioning. Sit your child upright, on your lap if possible, facing forward — avoid lying them down or holding them flat. Feeling supported and in control reduces distress.
✔ Offer choice where you can. “Do you want to sit on the couch or the bed?”
✔ Go slowly. Pauses are okay.
✔ Plan a reward straight after. Something small and immediate — a sticker, a favourite song, screen time, or a cuddle — helps kids know there’s a positive end point.

Most importantly, acknowledge their feelings. Saying “I know this feels hard” helps build trust far more than minimising the experience.

Helping kids through medicine time isn’t about forcing compliance — it’s about preparing, supporting, and building confidence over time.

We’re excited to share that NeedleCalm and Clinrol are partnering to make clinical trials more accessible, inclusive, and supportive — especially for people who find needle procedures challenging.

If you’ve ever thought about joining a clinical trial but hesitated because of injections, blood tests, or IV infusions — you’re not alone.

Many research studies involve repeated needle procedures. For people with a low tolerance to needle procedures, that can feel like a major barrier. Sometimes it’s enough to stop someone from participating altogether.

NeedleCalm was created to support people who experience discomfort or distress during injections and blood tests — from children through to older adults. By helping improve comfort during needle procedures, our goal is to reduce avoidance and make essential care more manageable.

Through this partnership:

• Clinical trial participants may have access to NeedleCalm during studies involving needle procedures
• Research teams will be encouraged to consider comfort strategies early
• Patients will have clearer pathways to discover suitable trials through Clinrol

Clinical research plays a critical role in improving treatments, medications, and outcomes. But participation should never come at the expense of comfort or dignity.

If you’ve been curious about clinical trials but worried about the needle component, there are now more supportive options available.

You deserve to be involved in research — and to feel supported while doing so.

If you’re interested in learning more about clinical trials and would like to explore options that prioritise comfort during needle procedures, we’d love to connect or guide you toward appropriate resources.
