Happy International Day of Sign Languages! 🤟🎉

Today we celebrate the beauty of sign language and the power of communication in all its forms. 😄

The theme of this year is "Sign Up for Sign Language Rights", highlighting the importance of advocating for the linguistic rights of deaf individuals and promoting sign languages globally. The focus is on encouraging collaboration with national and local organisations to ensure the recognition and preservation of sign languages.

I’m volunteer for a charity as NSW representative of Agosci.

Agosci is “The Australian Group Supporting Communication Inclusion”

We provide evidenced based training across important areas for Allied Health professionals on topics like Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

Our National tour is with international guest speaker Linda Burkhart on Developing Communication, Learning and Access Skills for Children Who Face Severe Physical and Multiple Challenges

April has come and gone in a flash, and with it, has been Autism Awareness Month. More than
205,000 Australians are autistic and 1 in 4 Australians have a family member on the autism
spectrum. Increased awareness has also seen a surge in autism diagnosis in Australia, estimated at
around 3.2% of school children. The tagline for this year's autism month was "learn together and
grow together". Excitingly, during April, the Australian government released its draft National
Autism Strategy, and is open for public feedback at the end of May.

Here at Olive Tree Therapy, we work closely with autistic people and their families, and strongly
believe in the ethos encompassed by "learn together, grow together". We have seen that with the
right support, autistic individuals can flourish, and we are excited to see and participate in a future
where not only is there a greater awareness towards autism, but one where all individuals continue
to grow and thrive together.

Did you see our exciting announcement in our upcoming event news email last week? We are very proud to announce our 2024 National Tour with international guest presenter Linda Burkhart. The National Tour will run 22nd August - 18th September 2024. We cannot wait and hope to see you there!

Our music therapist Howard demonstrates drumming - an attractive and popular approach in music therapy. This drumming song uses the Nordoff Robbiin approach and all you need is four drums.

This song incorporates the skills of following instructions, joint attention and rhythmic entrainment (e.g. changing the speed of the song). Music can easily bring therapeutic effects and fun to others!
