This weekend, our online yoga students at Winston Hills Yoga classes explored Thread the Needle pose, a gentle yet deeply effective shoulder opener that invited both release and reflection. From a tabletop position, they slid one arm underneath the chest, palm facing up, allowing the upper back and shoulders to soften toward the mat. As the spine gently twisted, breath became the guide—slow inhales creating space, long exhales encouraging tension to melt away.

Many students noticed how deceptively simple the pose feels, yet how powerfully it works into the shoulders, neck, and upper back—areas where we often carry stress without realizing it. With options to stay lifted or rest the head and shoulder, everyone was able to find a variation that felt supportive and grounding.

Thread the Needle offered a moment to pause, unwind, and reconnect, setting a calm, centered tone that carried through the rest of the practice and into the weekend beyond.

In yesterdays online Winston Hills Yoga session , my members did a wonderful job practicing seated twists 🌟

They stayed grounded through the sitting bones, lengthened the spine, and gently rotated from the waist—allowing the IT band to stretch safely and effectively. The focus, patience, and mindful breathing they brought into the pose made the practice truly rewarding.

Seated twists remind us that stretching isn’t about force—it’s about listening to the body and moving with control.

So proud of the effort everyone put in today. Keep showing up, keep breathing, and the body will respond. 🌿

Warrior III (Virabhadrasana III) is a powerful pose that builds strength, balance, and focus all at once. It challenges the body to stay steady while the mind learns to stay calm. Strong legs, an engaged core, open hips, and a long spine all come together in this beautiful posture.

Today, my wonderful yoga members Winston Hills Yoga did a wonderful job practising Warrior III 👏
They showed great determination, balance, and awareness—holding the pose with control and confidence. It’s inspiring to see how consistent practice brings more stability and ease, even in challenging poses like this one.

Warrior III reminds us that balance isn’t about being perfectly still—it’s about finding strength through focus and breath.

Practising Śīrṣāsana with a chair as a prop is a smart, supportive way to build confidence and strength—especially if going straight into a free headstand feels intimidating.

Using an Iyengar chair gives you stability and security, allowing the body to understand the shape of the pose without fear of falling. It helps you focus on alignment, breath, and awareness, rather than just “getting up.”🫶

😇Once you’re comfortably inverted with both feet supported on the chair, the real practice begins. Slowly, engage your core—draw the navel gently in, activate the abdominal muscles, and feel the strength wrapping around your spine. With control (not momentum), lift one foot away from the chair, keeping the hips steady and the breath calm. Then, when ready, place it back and repeat with the other foot.

❤️This one foot at a time approach teaches patience and balance. It builds deep core strength and helps you understand how much support actually comes from the center of the body—not the neck or the wall.

The key is awareness:

💡Press firmly through the forearms

💡Lift up through the shoulders

💡Keep the core engaged at all times

💡Move slowly and mindfully

Using an Iyengar chair doesn’t mean the pose is “easier”—it means it’s safer, smarter, and more intentional. Over time, this method builds the strength, confidence, and body intelligence needed to progress toward a steady, independent Śīrṣāsana.

Remember: take one day at a time. Every controlled lift, every conscious breath, is progress. 🌿

I always tell my online Winston Hills Yoga clients: practice makes it easier, not overnight perfection.

Take one day at a time, one breath at a time. Some days you’ll feel strong, other days wobbly — both are part of the journey. Consistency matters far more than rushing into the pose🫶😇🧿

Benefits of achieving Śīrṣāsana 🌿
❤️When practiced safely and with patience, Śīrṣāsana offers powerful benefits:

❤️Builds strength & stability – strengthens shoulders, arms, neck, and core

❤️Improves focus & mental clarity – being upside down demands presence

❤️Boosts circulation – fresh blood flow to the brain can feel energizing and refreshing

❤️Enhances balance & confidence – physically and mentally

❤️Calms the nervous system – many experience reduced stress with regular practice

❤️Encourages discipline & patience – progress comes through steady effort

More than the physical benefits, achieving Śīrṣāsana teaches trust in yourself. Trust in your body, your breath, and the process.

So if today you’re just practicing alignment at the wall or holding for a few seconds — that’s progress. Keep showing up. 🌱
Your body will open when it’s ready.
