Swallow and/or Voice problems since Whiplash? Invitation to Participate in a University of Sydney Research Study!
Hello everyone. I'm Danielle Stone, a Speech Pathologist in Sydney and PhD Student at The University of Sydney. If you have had whiplash in the past, we are very interested in whether swallow- and/or voice-related problems exist as a result of whiplash. You are invited to participate if interested and eligible!
Since your whiplash, have you experienced ANY of the following difficulties at any point in your recovery?
a) Eating/chewing certain foods
b) Swallowing foods or liquids
c) Managing or completing your meals
d) Unusual sensation in your throat when swallowing or talking
e) Speaking or talking
f) Losing your voice
g) Tired voice
h) Change in the sound or volume of your voice
If you answered “YES” to any of the above options (a – h), you are eligible to participate and invited to contact the researchers if you are interested in participating.
The study involves a one-on-one interview, to discuss any swallow- or voice-related problems you may have experienced since whiplash. This will help us better understand these potentially under-recognised issues. We can conduct the interview at a time that suits you, either online, via telephone or face-to-face following safe distancing covid-19 guidelines. We envisage the interview will take between 20-40 minutes.
If you are interested in finding out more information, please respond directly to PhD student Ms Danielle Stone (an experienced speech pathologist) on danielle.stone@sydney.edu.au or phone her on 0417029602. Danielle will then explain the study further and answer any further questions you have.
We look forward to speaking with you if you feel you have new voice- and/or swallow-related issues SINCE whiplash. Thank you!
