Struggling with relationship problems?
Most of us do. It's hard when you have RELATIONAL WOUNDS or relational trauma.
This is deeply wired into the psyche due to our early attachment experiences. We can only meet another nervous system at the level our OWN nervous system is at.
WE DATE AT THE LEVEL WE THINK WE ARE WORTH.
Fact is, we often ‘trauma bond’, or put simply, look to ‘finish unfinished business’ or get core unmet needs met, in our romantic relationships in particular.
Trouble is - that is NOT the job of our partner or friend - it starts within us. To regulate self and meet our own needs first, so that people who want to get close to us don't get burned by a task that is not theirs to carry.
Nothing activates attachment patterns quite so loudly as romantic partnerships.
In order to form healthier bonds - romantic, friendship or other- it is healthy to revisit and repair these wounds.
This type of Shadow Work is not to be rushed where there has been complexity or - for want of a better word - a lot of trauma. A lack of internal resources will have you spiral out of your window of tolerance pretty quickly, hence WHY it is so so important to work with a trained therapist, trauma specialist or nervous system expert - so that they can expertly guide you through the disconfirming experiences you need in order to heal. This is key to healing - we must experience something DIFFERENT to our early survival adaptations -the brain and the body need to see there is a different way that feels better and doesn't get in the way of your adaptive healthy adult functioning.
This takes time, expertise and skill to be done Ina non harming manner that has you not wanting to run out of the therapy room.
Please choose your healing modality and chosen guide or therapist wisely - the industry is flooded with experts that have not, in fact, got the skill or training to do such delicate and crucial work. Think ‘coaching packages’ - a lot of harm is done in this largely unregulated field that has become quite the buzzword.
