Cerebral palsy (CP) is a condition that affects how a child moves, sits, and controls their muscles. It’s caused by an injury to the developing brain usually before, during, or shortly after birth.

While CP is a lifelong condition, it’s important to know: it’s not progressive, it won’t get worse over time.

Every child with CP is different. Some walk independently, others may need mobility support.

Early understanding and the right therapy can make a big difference. 💛

“I think my child has one leg shorter than the other… should I be worried?”

It’s a common concern and the good news is, in many cases, there’s a simple explanation. A leg might appear shorter due to muscle tightness, pelvic alignment, or the way your child moves.

The best first step?
Speak to your doctor or paediatric physiotherapist.

They can assess your child’s walking pattern, check for tightness or joint issues, and guide you on whether any support like stretching, orthotics, or referrals is needed.

Early assessment = peace of mind and better outcomes.

Sitting is a major milestone, but did you know it takes months of practice, play, and postural learning to get there?

From holding their head up to balancing and reaching for toys, every stage of sitting builds on the one before.

And every baby does it at their own pace!

Toddlers are amazing movers!

Did you know the average toddler takes over 2,000 steps an hour and falls 17 times along the way? 😲

Learning to walk is messy, busy, and beautifully normal.

Falling is not failing, it’s part of the learning

Swipe to see just how much movement (and falling!) is part of the process.

Wondering if your child’s flat feet need orthotics?

Flat feet are common in kids, and most of the time, they don’t need treatment! But if your child is complaining of pain or having trouble keeping up with their friends during play, it might be worth a chat with a health professional.

Proprioception plays a key role in a child’s balance, coordination, and motor skills. If your child struggles with any of the following, they may have proprioceptive challenges:

- Frequent falls or difficulty standing on one foot
- Uncoordinated movements, like trouble walking in a straight line or reaching for objects
- Clumsiness—bumping into things, dropping objects often
- Poor posture, like slouching or needing extra support while sitting
- Difficulty judging force—pressing too hard with a pencil or struggling to pick up objects gently

Noticing these signs can help you support your child's development.

Regular practice is key!

Engaging them in balance activities and sensory play can strengthen their proprioception over time.

What is Proprioception & Why Does It Matter?
Ever wonder how you can walk without looking at your feet or touch your nose with your eyes closed? That’s proprioception at work!

Proprioception is our body’s ability to sense where it is in space. It’s controlled by sensory messages from muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, and skin that constantly send feedback to the brain. This system is essential for balance, movement planning, sports performance, and even playing musical instruments!
When this system is disrupted—due to injury, neurological conditions, or developmental delays—it can impact coordination and balance, making everyday tasks more challenging.

What keeps us balanced?
It’s not just about strong muscles! Our body relies on three key systems to stay steady:

👂 Vestibular System – Our inner ear senses movement & head position.
👀 Vision – Our eyes help us understand where we are in space.
👣 Proprioception – Our muscles & joints tell our brain where our body is without looking.

When these systems work together, we move with confidence. When they don’t, kids may appear clumsy or struggle with activities like running, jumping, or climbing.
