Retirement looked great in theory.
Slow mornings.
No alarms.
No meetings.
No emails.
Perfect.
Then Tuesday at 10:17am arrives.
You’ve already had your coffee.
You’ve read the news.
You’ve reorganised the pantry.
You’ve stood in the kitchen wondering why you walked in there.
And suddenly a trip to Bunnings feels like a major social event.
It’s funny because it’s true.
But underneath the humour is something important:
Work gave people more than a pay cheque.
It gave structure.
Routine.
Identity.
Connection.
Momentum.
That’s why retirement isn’t the real problem.
Having nothing meaningful to replace work with is.
