🌟 Milestone Moment 🌟
Re-imagining Education at Wanda

In the first week of the school holidays, we launched our very first SRC to Bronze Transition - intensive Course… and it was a huge success!

Traditionally, this course is delivered over 6–8 weeks, with two sessions per week. But thanks to the vision and commitment of our incredible educators, we trialled a new format, delivering and assessing the entire course over just four days. This innovative approach is designed to boost engagement, improve retention, and get higher-skilled lifesavers on the beach faster.

17 of Wanda’s amazing youth members stepped up, trained hard, and officially transitioned from their Surf Rescue Certificate to their Bronze Medallion. This pilot program fast-tracked their development, building confidence, resilience, and deeper lifesaving skills, and they absolutely rose to the challenge.

We’re so proud of the energy, teamwork, and commitment shown by every participant. They’re now ready to patrol with even greater capability.

❤️💙 A massive thank you to our dedicated trainers, Pippa, Therese, Karen, and Kenny who gave up half their school holidays and backed up after a five-week SRC course with 34 kids. And to their incredible support crew, made up largely of our older youth, who helped make this milestone possible.

💙❤️ Your passion and generosity continue to shape the future of our club, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you

🌟 Spotlight on Education: Meet Our Newest Lifesavers! 🌟

We’re absolutely thrilled to introduce our newly qualified lifesavers who completed their SRC over the weekend and are now ready to hit the beach. And what a group - 34 kids, full of energy, enthusiasm, and potential. This milestone marks the beginning of their journey as lifesavers, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Managing a group of this size is no small feat, and it speaks volumes about the strength of our education team. A huge shoutout to our superstar trainers Pip, Therese, and Karen, whose passion, patience, and expertise have shaped this massive crew into confident, capable lifesavers. Your dedication to education and youth development is the reason our future on the beach looks so bright.

Let’s give these young legends a massive round of applause as they take their first steps in service to our community. Wanda is in very good hands!

Dane Sutton Shines on the International Stage 🟢🟡

We are incredibly proud of Dane Sutton, who made his debut for Australia over the weekend at the Battle of the Tasman, and what a performance it was!

Dane delivered outstanding individual results:

🥇 1st in Ski
🥇 1st in Board
🥈 2nd in Iron
🏅 4th in Swim

He also played a key role in multiple team events, helping the Youth Team secure victory in the Youth Competition Point score, contributing to Australia’s overall win. What a phenomenal effort!

Next up, Dane will once again wear the green and gold as he heads to Mt Maunganui, New Zealand this November to represent Australia at the International Surf Rescue Challenge. 👏👏👏

2025 Battle of the Tasman // This week, we celebrate a truly special milestone. Dane Sutton has been selected to represent the Australian Youth Team at the upcoming Battle of the Tasman on the Gold Coast, taking place on Friday and Saturday.

Wearing the green and gold is a dream many chase, and Dane has earned it through years of dedication, grit, and heart. From joining nippers at Wanda as a 5 year old to becoming a fierce competitor, humble teammate, and inspiring role model, Dane’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent meets perseverance.
To put this into perspective, only a handful of Wanda athletes have ever made an Australian team.

Good luck, Dane!

Compete hard, soak up every moment, and know that your Wanda family is behind you every step of the way.

We thought it fitting to share a collection of photos that trace Dane’s path from sandy toes to elite athlete. Each image tells a story of growth, the importance of community, and the spirit of surf lifesaving.
