Small Questions, Big Connections 💛

When a group of kids from Wahroonga Adventist School sat down with residents at Adventist Aged Care, a simple Q&A turned into something truly special.

They swapped stories, shared laughs, and traded jokes about gummy bears and octopuses. But in between the giggles came wisdom—like George, 93, who told them: “One of the best things you can be in this world is independent.”

In just a few questions, two generations found common ground and reminded us all of the power of listening.🙌

‘Christmas in July’ is a chance to enjoy the traditional winter charm of a northern hemisphere-style Christmas, complete with hearty meals, festive table settings, and warm woolly clothes to ward off the cold. It’s all enjoyed in good company, with plenty of music and laughter.

Beyond the fun, it's also a meaningful way to foster a shared sense of community and connection.
At its heart, Christmas in July brings residents together to celebrate, connect, and build a stronger sense of belonging through festive cheer.

“Since moving from the village, I’ve enjoyed so many wonderful events that confirmed I made the right decision—just look at today!” said resident Fay.

“When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie
 that’s Amor’e!”

Amor’e was the theme of the day, as residents chose from a selection of masks representing their favourite music legends. Dean Martin (That’s Amor’e), Doris Day (Que Sera Sera), Tom Jones (It’s Not Unusual), and Elvis (Return to Sender) all made an appearance!

“Music is a superpower we regularly use in aged care — it has the ability to therapeutically ignite the senses and unlock memories for our residents. We’re also lucky to have a team that’s always willing to dress up and bring fun and levity to the day,” said Savanthie.

Years of Service🙌

It was a celebration of dedication and hard work at Kings Langley, as team members were recently recognised for reaching their 5- and 10-year service milestones. Each staff member was formally presented with a certificate, commemorative name badge, and a gift voucher in appreciation of their continued contribution.

The occasion was marked by heartfelt praise from management. Zia Yasrebi, Business Manager Sydney, acknowledged the impact of each team member, saying:
"The efforts of our staff do not go unnoticed. We are truly grateful to have such passionate and talented individuals on our team here at Kings Langley."

His sentiments were echoed by Director of Care, Savanthie Dias, who added, "Well done, and a special thank you for your ongoing support in all that you do. I hope your journey here continues to be long, fulfilling, and full of opportunities to learn and grow each year."

Favourite Destination – Resident Stories

When Hans Christian Andersen wrote, “To travel is to live,” he perfectly captured the belief that travel enriches our lives — opening us up to new experiences, cultures, and opportunities to learn and grow.

With that spirit in mind, we invited our residents to share a photo that best represents a destination that brought them joy, adventure, or personal enrichment. Reminiscing is a powerful way to spark memories and connection, so to make the day even more engaging, our staff dressed up in the colours and styles of their own favourite places — creating a vibrant, fun, and immersive atmosphere for everyone.

Unsurprisingly, some of the world's most beloved destinations made an appearance. Jill shared her love for Japan, where she once visited her brother. Margarita spoke about the joy of arriving in Australia with her children — a long-held dream finally realised. And Trevor proudly displayed a large photo of the Airbus A380 cockpit, recalling a memorable trip to New Zealand with his son.

“The Airbus A380 is a truly impressive plane, and I loved the opportunity to visit the cockpit. I’ll always remember this trip — not just because of the plane, but because I got to share it with my son. That made it unforgettable.”

We celebrated a momentous occasion — the 100th birthdays of six remarkable individuals!

The celebrations began with a warm welcome from Elizabeth Lodge Managing Director, Brian Swanepoel, who greeted our special guests. We were honoured to have both State Member of Parliament, Alister Henskens MP SC, and Federal Member of Parliament, Nicolette Boele, in attendance. Each delivered inspiring speeches that added meaning to the day.

Mr Henskens presented each centenarian with a special card, while Ms Boele gifted them flowers and cards — a thoughtful touch that made the day even more memorable.

Guests enjoyed exquisite catering and a delicious feast. Photographs captured the joy of the day, and the celebratory cake — cut with the help of both MPs — was a true highlight.

It was a joyful and heartwarming event, filled with laughter, celebration, and love — especially for the centenarians, their families, and friends.

King’s Birthday Celebration👑

It was a day filled with fun and laughter as our residents celebrated the King’s Birthday in true royal style. Staff embraced the spirit of the day, dressing in regal outfits and hosting light-hearted games — from tossing balloons into boxes to winning chocolates and chips — each requiring a surprising amount of focus and dexterity!

Laughter echoed through the room as residents got into the competitive spirit. The only thing missing was a bit of medieval jousting on horseback! 😊

“Our residents have told us how much they love to have fun, and the King’s Birthday celebration was the perfect opportunity to share some laughs and spark a bit of friendly competition. We love organising these activities because they promote joy, inclusivity, and a sense of community,” said Savanthie, Director of Care.

A Happy Birthday at Jim’s CafĂ©

Celebrating a birthday doesn’t get much better than coffee, cake, and good company at Jim’s CafĂ©.

“My friends and family called to wish me a Happy Birthday and asked if I had any plans for the day. I thought, why not get everyone together at Jim’s for coffee and cake? We laughed a lot, enjoyed some sweet treats, and had a really lovely time. It’s great having the cafĂ© as a place to catch up,” said Gillian, Independent Resident.

International Nurses Day is a special time to appreciate the dedication, skill, and compassion nurses show in providing care and making a difference in people’s lives. Nurses work tirelessly, often facing demanding and challenging situations to offer support and comfort.

Every May, we take time to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible contributions of nurses everywhere—especially the outstanding care provided by our own. To all of you, we sincerely thank you for your care, comfort, and courage.

Each year, we are proud to participate in the Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Council research, prevention programs, and support services. This event brings communities across Australia together to enjoy time with one another over a cup of tea and delicious treats.

This year, our lovely residents and their families joined in the celebration, thoughtfully organised by Jocee and her recreational services team, with valuable support from our maintenance staff, who are always ready to assist with our events. There were scones with jam and cream, slices, and cakes generously donated by residents’ families and staff, accompanied by a variety of tasty teas, all elegantly served on the finest china.

Everyone in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the event and generously made donations to this worthy cause.

“This year, we raised over $600 for the Cancer Council. We couldn’t have done this without the support and involvement of our residents, their wonderful families, and, of course, my team, who are always enthusiastic about coming together to support our residents—not only for a good cause but also for some scrumptious fun,” said Savanthie Dias, Director of Care.

đŸŒŒA Happy Mother's DayđŸŒŒ

We recently celebrated Mothers’ Day at Kings Langley with our wonderful mums by hosting a delightful afternoon tea, accompanied by a cheerful sing-along to spark laughter and joy among our ladies.

The celebration served as a touching reminder of the endless love a mother gives. We shared excerpts from a poem by Helen Steiner Rice, beautifully capturing the boundless and selfless nature of a mother’s love:

‘A Mother’s love is something
that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain.
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away
