Join us at Harry Hartog Miranda on the 2nd of October to discuss grief and loss with local author and counsellor, Connie Easterbrook.
Grief and mourning are taboo subjects in our society, so how do you interact with the world when yours has been ripped apart by loss?
Connie Easterbrook is a professional counsellor who, despite having four children, didn’t find parenting easy. Her eldest daughter, Simone, died in a car accident when she was twenty-one. This was the second tragedy Connie had faced, having lost her brother to su***de when he was twenty-seven. 'My Daughter, Myself' is Connie’s journey to understand the complex mother–daughter relationship she had with Simone, which led to a complicated experience of grief. As Connie studied psychology and counselling, the origins of her parenting struggles, her losses and her battles with depression became clearer. 'My Daughter, Myself' exposes the flaws of our keep-calm-and-carry-on culture while shining a light on personal insight and growth.

I was so excited to receive this professional review from BookLife, a website from Publishers Weekly that supports indie authors.
Here is an excerpt. If you would like to read the full review the link is https://booklife.com/project/my-daughter-myself-81316
Easterbrook explores, with rare sensitivity and insight, grief, loss, and motherhood in this memoir crafted both to capture the “inner light” of her late daughter, Simone, and to share with readers what she’s learned about living on after bereavement. With a loving pen, Easterbrook offers an intimate portrait of daughter Simone, first exploring her “passionate, vibrant” eldest daughter with reflections on her personality, quirks, and virtues, but also delving into the challenges of parenting a child with ADHD, especially in a world that abhors “difference.” The insight into family dynamics connects readers to Easterbrook and her daughter, especially as Easterbrook acknowledges that “anxiety about Simone was my constant companion throughout her life.”
Simone died in a car accident at 21, a wrenching event that came at a fraught time for mother and daughter both. Easterbrook narrates the tensions in their relationships before the accident and the devastating aftermath with clear eyes, striking detail, and lots of heart, laying bare feelings of guilt, anger, shame—and “motherguilt.”

To my dear supporters,
I just wanted to let you know, if you haven't already seen my posts elsewhere on Facebook that I have published a book, a memoir actually, about my beautiful daughter Simone, who died in a car accident when she was 21.
My story is about grief and loss, parenting, the complexities of the mother/daughter relationship, anxiety, depression and living with ADHD.
I have written my deeply personal story to help others who may struggle with these kinds of issues.
If you are interested in purchasing a copy for yourself or you know someone who does who may benefit from my story, you can learn more from my new website www.connieeasterbrook.com.au
I look forward to hearing from you.
Warmest wishes,
Connie

Tuesday afternoons and some Monday evenings are my available times to see clients - individuals, couples or families.
If you would like to make an appointment for these times, contact me via my website, email or mobile (as below )
