Dr Gavin Sacks and one of his patients have been featured in recent media coverage discussing the Fertilo IVM programme — a stem cell culture technique designed to make fertility treatment potentially gentler for some patients, particularly those with PCOS.

Dr Sacks established this programme in Australia, and the media feature provides insight into how this approach differs from conventional IVF protocols.

Important update

I am sorry if you have been affected by IVF Australia’s attempted termination of my engagement with immediate effect on 10 October 2025, which means I am unable to honour appointments that were scheduled. I understand this creates significant disruption, especially for patients mid-treatment or with upcoming appointments.

I am working through the details of my future practice arrangements and will provide updates as soon as I am able to. I sincerely apologise for any distress this has caused. The situation was not of my choosing, and patient care remains my highest priority.

Curious about the science behind natural killer (NK) cell testing for fertility?

Uterine NK cells are immune cells in the uterus, supporting embryo implantation and placental development. Too many or too few can disrupt pregnancy, causing miscarriages and unexplained infertility.

While traditional uterine NK cell testing uses invasive uterus biopsies, I offer my patients cutting-edge NK cell blood testing at Flow Fertility.

NK cell activity in the blood is closely linked to NK cell activity in the uterus. Therefore, a simple blood test can provide vital reproductive information to guide your fertility treatment and better support your pregnancy.

It’s Women’s Health Week in Australia, marking a time for all women to prioritise their health and wellbeing.

Today’s Women’s Health Week theme of ‘Be kind to your mind’ is important to keep front of mind at every stage during your fertility journey. Remember to take time to care for your mental health as well as your physical health.

Research has shown that stress can negatively impact IVF treatment, with egg retrieval being the most affected stage in the process. Any fertility journey comes with ups and downs, and infertility has been linked to high rates of depressive and anxiety disorders for women. Despite this, very few women seek professional mental health support.

Please join me in spreading awareness of . Find time this week to practise self-care and share any mental health concerns with your doctor.

Fertility treatment, miscarriages, unexplained infertility and the longing to grow a family – these can all trigger big emotions.

Despite tests and increasing care options, there is still uncertainty in reproduction. I advise you to be brave in the uncertainty, as this uncertainty is what makes creating a human life a unique and beautiful thing.

Too often I see patients frustrated and distressed over ongoing struggles conceiving and the dreaded diagnosis – unexplained infertility.

While IVF and IVM are both forms of fertility treatment, there are some key differences between the two…

🌊IVF – Following hormone treatment, mature eggs are retrieved from a woman’s ovaries and are fertilised with s***m in a lab, with the resulting embryos transferred into the uterus.
🌊IVM – Immature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries, matured in a lab, fertilised with s***m to create embryos and then transferred into the uterus.

IVM is one of the latest breakthrough innovations in fertility medicine, with the potential to minimise the toll that fertility treatment takes on women. It’s an area of research I am actively involved in and I look forward to sharing more insights and science with you in the future.

Let’s redefine what’s possible in reproductive medicine.
