❤️ It's National Diabetes Week! ❤️
Did you know that that diabetes is Australia's fastest-growing chronic disease, with over 300 Australians developing diabetes every single day. That’s one person every five minutes.
Having diabetes significantly increases your risk of developing cardiovascular disease, including conditions like heart attack, stroke and peripheral artery disease.
HRI is tackling the urgent issue of rising rates of diabetes and cardiovascular disease with innovative and advanced research.

HRI is celebrating NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week this week! ❤️💛🖤

This year’s theme, 'The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy', highlights the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

At HRI, we are driven by our mission to reduce the impact of cardiovascular disease on all Australians, especially within our Aboriginal communities who are at considerable higher risk. We strive to close that health gap every day together with our friends at the .

At just 13 months old, Ryan experienced a devastating medical emergency – what began as flu-like symptoms escalated into severe septic shock and cardiac arrest. He survived, but lost both lower legs, fingertips and some fingers.💔😢

Sepsis is responsible for over 11 million deaths globally each year. Survivors often face permanent disabilities.

At the Heart Research Institute (HRI), Dr Chris Stanley and his team are investigating how sepsis impacts the cardiovascular system – particularly the dangerous drop in blood pressure seen in septic shock. There is currently no effective treatment.

What happened to Ryan could happen to any child with an infection. Your support can help change that.

Please consider donating before 30 June to help fund this life-saving work:

This week is 🤝

A time to reflect, celebrate First Nations culture and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The 2025 theme 'Bridging Now to Next' is a reminder that we all have a part to play and that real change happens when we walk together.

At HRI, we’ve taken an important first step in our formal reconciliation journey through the development of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which we anticipate will be launched in the coming months.

Our RAP creates meaningful conversations across the Institute, listening deeply to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, and reflecting honestly on where we are and where we need to be.

Together, we can create a more just, equitable, and reconciled Australia. ❤️💛🖤
