I had the privilege of attending the 10th anniversary celebration of Lakeview Private Hospital. Hospital staff including catering, CSSD, nurses, physios, admin, doctors and hospital leadership were celebrated equally. 65 staff were honoured for 10 years of service, the quiet heroes behind every patient journey. That’s what real culture looks like.
At the heart of this incredible Lakeview Private Hospital story are visionary doctors who didn’t wait for a multinational firm to lead. They led the way, invested in the community they serve, to deliver state-of-the-art patient care right here in Sydney. What a powerful reminder of what’s possible when leadership meets purpose.
In an era where billion-dollar corporate hospitals are faltering, burnout is high, morale is low, and the soul of medicine often feels lost in spreadsheets this celebration was a real-life, glowing example that success in healthcare isn’t about shiny infrastructure or aggressive expansion. It’s about people. Choosing culture over corporate tactics, community over consolidation, and connection over control is the only way to delivery sustainable success and growth.
As I stood in that room, watching everyone enjoy the evening, I was struck by the truth of Peter Drucker’s famous saying: “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” Lakeview Private has proven this by ten years of caring not just for patients, but for each other. Where the human touch hasn’t been automated or outsourced, where every individual regardless of their role, feels seen, valued, and included
