A few Ayurvedic tips for a healthy summer ☀

Do you know that Ayurveda recommends to tailor your diet to the season we are in? This is part of RITUCHARYA, or seasonal regime, that helps us achieve and stay in optimal health and vitality.

So now that we are in the summer mode in Australia 🌞 - how does Ayurveda recommend to modify your meals to avoid overheating our bodies and maintain good liver, eye, spleen, skin, heart, hormonal and emotional health?

Firstly, avoid or limit heating or fermented substances in summer, as they increase the fire in our bodies even further. These include:
🥵 Excessive consumption of vinegar, wine, beer or alcohol in general, coffee, yellow cheeses, yeast, heating spices like chilli or cayenne pepper
🥵 Ferments including sauerkraut, kombucha, kimchi and the like. These are great for winter to enkindle our digestive fire, but in summer they can be too heating. If you choose to consume them, be moderate in summer

Instead, go for:
😍 Fresh fruit and vegetables 🍒🍉
😍 Heathy grains and nuts (pre-soak nuts for better digestion, especially almonds)
😍 Eat 3-5 pre-soaked prunes in the evenings to maintain good liver health and help remove excess heat from the liver
😍 If you eat fish or seafood, note that Ayurveda considers them heating to the body. To counteract the heat, add fresh lemon juice or desiccated coconut to fish. Note that fish and seafood is not compatible with dairy, it is actually a toxic combination. Much better to add coconut milk to your fish curry 🍋🥥
😍 And don’t forget to drink plenty of water! 🐳💧

Have a healthy, happy and enjoyable summer!! 🌞🍀🌼

Wishing you, your family, friends and your loved ones a very HAPPY AND JOYFUL CHRISTMAS!!!

A big thank you to all ayurveda and healthy living enthusiasts for your support of my ayurvedic practice, your referrals and positive vibes in 2021!

While it was a challenging year no doubt for most of us, it did bring us some gifts - deeper and more meaningful connections for some, learning to be ok in your own company for others. It encouraged us to focus on inner search for meaning and truth, patience, humility, courage and perseverance. To establish healthier habits, to get more outdoors, to appreciate friendships, to value life.

I am wishing you to take the best of 2021 into the next year and leave the worst of it behind. Celebrate, connect with people, disconnect the devices, rest, recharge, breathe, be!

Lots of love,
Julia Pomazkina

P.S. and if you need a last minute gift, GIFT VOUCHERS are always available for ayurvedic massage, shirodhara and other ayurvedic therapies (are sent to you electronically by email / message), just get in touch.

WINTER DETOX
Ayurveda places a lot of emphasis on RITUCHARYA – seasonal regimes. And for a good reason!
Each seasons leaves a different impact on our bodies and promotes accumulation of different ayurvedic doshas – which can bring season-related health challenges.
In winter, for example, when the weather is colder and damper and is dominated by Kapha dosha – our bodies are naturally prone to accumulating extra mucus, metabolic wastes, congestion and stagnation. This can bring on lymphatic sluggishness, tiredness, water retention, sinus congestion and prevent prana, or lifeforce, from circulating freely through our systems.
And furthermore, come summer – under the heat of the summer sun, this accumulated sludge and stagnation that is blocking srotamsi, or body channels, can then further contribute to pro-inflammatory conditions, hot flushes, migraines and other unpleasant and unhealthy stuff.

That is why Ayurveda recommends some form of seasonal detox – specific to each season.
And it does not have to be difficult, unpleasant, overly ascetic or stressful.

Like this enjoyable winter detox drink recipe (by one of my ayurvedic teachers Dr Ajit).
Taking this decoction for 2 weeks is an effective yet easy way to assist in:

👍 Useful for asthma, bronchitis and sore throat
👍 Improving peripheral circulation – great for weight loss

👍 Relaxing tensions in the nervous system, useful in mild depression and anxiety
👍 Improving water metabolism – great for water retention and oedema

👍 Useful as part of the therapy for reducing cholesterol (LDL)
👍 Detoxifying the lymphatic system, gut, blood, plasma

A great TED talk by Kelly McGonigal (health phycologist in the US) on the physiology of stress vs the biology of courage.

While we certainly should not be creating unnecessary physical or physiological stress for ourselves through our own incessant ambitions or unchecked tendencies to outstretch ourselves - lives still happens, things happen, stress happens, job losses / health concerns / financial stress / family situations - are all part of life.
Ayurvedically speaking, stress is a LANGHANA situation (similar to what's called "yang" in Chinese medicine).

I liked this talk as it gives a more empowered way to look at stress:
🌞 Responding to stress with inner COURAGE - actually changes our physiology and not only improves the outcome but combats some of the physiological effects of stress.

🌞 At times of stress, seeking support, HUMAN CONNECTION, being surrounded by people who love and care about us and sharing our feelings will promote production of oxytocin. Oxytocin is a hormone that helps us deal with stress and its negative impact on our minds, hearts and body.

🌞 Oxytocin is produced not only when we reach our to others for help, but also when we HELP SOMEONE ELSE.

How cool is that?! And so ayurvedic! Connecting with others, empathy to self and others, responding to life with inner courage and acceptance, helping others and seeking help - ayurveda calls this BRMHANA activities (similar to "yin" in TCM).
Langhana and Brmhana, yang and yin - supporting each other, through this wonderful yet at times stressful life.

Стрес. Той кара сърцето ви да тупти, дишането ви да се учестява и челото ви да се поти. Но докато стресът се превръща във враг на публичното здраве, новите изследвани....
