MORNING SICKNESS // let’s do a little throwback to first trimester when my morning sickness was at its worst 😩

I was 7 weeks pregnant here and was feeling nauseas for most of the day. Hubs was looking after our toddler so I could rest on the weekends. I was invited to attend an event with but I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to go with how I was feeling. I was feeling dizzy and was worried about driving far distances 😵‍💫

Then offered to drive me when I told her about my morning sickness. We had such a great time at the event. I met some new people and also bumped into some familiar faces.

On our way back, I started feeling very off in the car. I could tell something wasn’t right. I started vomiting as soon as I got out of the car and it continued into the night. It was very challenging because my toddler wanted to come to me for cuddles and breastfeeding but I had to turn her away 😔

It was the worst day of morning sickness/ first trimester. I vomited 5-6 times that night 🤮 I was feeling so miserable and found myself wondering, what have I gotten myself into? Will it be worth it?

Now that I have a newborn in my arms, I can say that it was very much worth it 🥲💯

If you are pregnant and struggling to get through the rough times of morning sickness, please know that it does get better and it’s very much worth it. Just hang in there 😥

💯

DIETITIANS WEEK // today is the last day of Dietitians Week. I’m a little late to posting as my hands are full juggling a newborn and toddler so this is all I can do right now to advocate for our profession 🙋🏻‍♀️

This past week was all about raising awareness for the role Accredited Practising Dietitian (APDs) play in improving and transforming lives in our communities 🇦🇺

The theme for this year was: Your health, our mission: Talk to a dietitian which is all about celebrating dietitians who drive meaningful change through better nutrition and informed choices.

Dietitians are leading experts in supporting better health, empowering individuals with evidence-based nutrition care. Whether it’s in hospitals, private practice, government agencies, community health centres, foodservice or at universities, dietitians shape health in every setting.

Dietitians also have an important role in supporting those who have a disability. Due to the recent funding cuts, people with disability are going to have even more difficulty accessing the critical dietetic and nutrition support they need to function.

We know that people with disability often have complex nutrition needs and this requires comprehensive dietary and nutrition support.

is calling for:
1) The NDIA price cut decision for dietetics to be abolished
2) An appropriate indexation of dietetic services taking into account operating costs, current CPI and wage price increases
3) Restoration of travel budgets

Please sign the petition below to show your support and share it with others ⬇️

MAT LEAVE // can’t believe we’re already at the end of May! I wrapped up client work earlier this month but I didn’t get around posting on here 🫣

I tried my best to cross off a few things but I feel like it’s almost impossible to finish everything on the list when you have your own biz 🤣

Anyways I did what I could with a toddler and being pregnant 🤰 I definitely wish I was able to do more but it is what it is. I’ve told myself that it can wait and it’s time for me to switch off so I can enjoy the newborn bubble 🫧

So what can you expect from me while I’m on mat leave?
1️⃣ I will still be posting content on here but it will be focusing more on postpartum rather than pregnancy. I’m happy to share my experience so feel free to DM me any questions you have related to pregnancy or postpartum 👶

2️⃣ I will still be releasing episodes for our podcast Nourish Bump and Beyond. I have already batch recorded a few episodes and will be doing more in coming months. You can listen to our podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcast and all major podcasting platforms 🎙️

3️⃣ I will not be seeing clients 1:1 during this time. However, you can still access all of my digital products which include a self-paced course, ebooks and guides.

My self-paced mini course Pregnancy Foundations is currently on sale! Send me a DM with the word MINI COURSE if you’d like more information.

If you’d like to purchase my other digital products, send me a DM with the word OTHER SUPPORT.

As always, thank you for your support ☺️ I will be responding to Insta DMs when I can but I will not be monitoring my inbox regularly.

MOTHERS DAY // happy Mother’s Day to those who are celebrating today and sending love to new mums, old mums, single mums, mothers who have lost a child or those who have lost their mothers, struggling with infertility or waiting to become mothers. I know this is an incredibly hard day for some people 💔

This is my third Mother’s Day with my baby girl but what makes today even more special is to be able to celebrate with the bump 🥰

I’ve learnt a lot in my time as a mum with my two year old. I’ve made a lot of mistakes and I’m now working on being a better version of myself. One thing I have realised is the importance of taking care of my physical and mental health so I can be a better mum which means being more present and more regulated 🧠 this is something I have started prioritising in the past year and continued during my pregnancy 🤰

Another thing I’ve realised is the importance of holding onto the identity I had before having a baby. Life looks different now and I can’t do a lot of the same things I used to do but I also don’t want to completely lose the person I used to be and the aspirations I had. I understand that not all of them can be achieved but I will try my best to hold onto what I can 😅

Here’s to making more memories and being present for my babies 👶

MY BIRTH STORY // April is C-section Awareness Month so I wanted to share my birth story 🥲 I have also recorded a podcast episode but I won’t be posting it for a little while so I wanted to share a mini version ⬇️

I was planning to have a vaginal birth and I did a few different courses to help me prepare which included the usual one with the hospital, one with women’s health physio, and another one on hypnobirthing.
I started feeling very uncomfortable after 38 weeks with braxton hicks and cramps. I was waiting to go into labour naturally but it just wasn’t happening.
The pain was getting quite intense at times but it wasn’t regular enough to be in labour.
I had called up the birth unit a few times and went in 3 times in total. Everything was looking good with CTG monitoring so I knew that bub was doing well.
However, I was starting to feel very uncomfortable with the abdominal cramps and it was very painful. I advocated for myself because I felt that something wasn’t right. After doing further investigations, I learnt that I had thrombocytopenia (low platelet levels) and the abdominal cramps were a sign of pre-eclampsia. This was not picked up earlier because I didn’t have the typical symptoms for pre-eclampsia which were high blood pressure, blurry vision or headache.
Once the diagnosis was established, I was told that it would be best to deliver bub within the next day or so. I was given the choice of an induction or a C-section.
I was really drained by this stage and felt that I didn’t have in me to go through with an induction. I thought I was choosing the easy option by choosing a C-section. I was obviously very naive and didn’t realise that there would be other challenges and how it would impact my breastfeeding and postpartum journey.

FIRST TRIMESTER TALES // I’ve had some people ask about 🤰 so thought I’d share a few things starting with first trimester 😅 I’ll be honest and tell you that the pictures you see here mostly represent my good days. For example, you see a happy mum in the first pic but if you swipe to the next pic, you’ll see a girl who felt sick in the car and needed a nap.

There were lots of bad days and I know some people have it way worse so I’m grateful mine wasn’t as bad as it could be but what I had was still pretty bad. I found it really hard to cope on some days and needed to take medications 💊

My morning sickness felt worse this time around. I’m not sure if it was because of having to manage a toddler. I found it very challenging to get through work on some days and I was preparing for a conference presentation during this time which meant longer work hours than usual.

I was also trying to wean my toddler around this time because I realised I couldn’t do it anymore. I really did enjoy breastfeeding her for about 18+ months but it was starting to become draining and painful. I know that first trimester hormones were peaking at this point that caused me to feel this way 🥺

Looking back, I don’t know I got through all of that but I think what helped me was taking it one day at a time and having a lot of support from family. Hubs took over cooking completely and we kept things very simple. My diet was not very healthy or balanced. I couldn’t eat much on most days because of nausea and food aversions 🤢

Another thing that helped was resting as much as possible. I did some low impact exercise (mostly reformer pilates) but I also took a break for a few weeks so I could rest my body. It was a very busy season so I chose to give myself grace ❤️

Sending you love if you’re reading this on your first trimester. Please be kind to yourself 🥰

I’ve also recorded a podcast sharing my first trimester experience where I talk about my diet/ nutrition in more detail 🗣️

REINTRO WITH AI DOLL TREND // I’ve had a lot of new faces here so I wanted to introduce myself if you’re new here 👋

On some days, you’ll find me working as a Certified Prenatal Dietitian which involves seeing clients who are TTC, pregnant or postpartum; recording our podcast Nourish Bump and Beyond and creating content 🤓

On other days, you’ll find me in my mum mode with a messy bun and baggy clothes. Some people may see my role as just a mum but I absolutely love being a mum. Of course, there are challenges that come with being a mum to a toddler and there are lots of tantrums. Plus being pregnant with a toddler has its own set of challenges. Some days are just about survival but I do find it very rewarding and it makes my heart full 🥲

Here are 3 fun facts about me 👇
1️⃣ I love writing things down. I thrive on having a to-do list and I also try to write in my journal 📓
2️⃣ I used to have an obsession with buying nice shoes and heels in my pre-baby era. Now I’m all about comfort and only wear slides or walking shoes 😂
3️⃣ I used to be fairly active but found it hard to get back to exercise after having a baby. Then I found a gym that had reformer pilates and I really do enjoy being in my pilates era now. I also do mat pilates, barre and circuit to mix things up sometimes 💪

ENDO + PREGNANCY // March is Endometriosis Awareness Month so I wanted to share a new paper that looked at the impact of endometriosis during pregnancy 🤰

Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to the lining of the uterus (known as endometrium) grow outside the uterus. It is a major cause infertility and also affects pregnancy. It’s thought that approximately 10% of women of reproductive age have some degree of endometriosis and 30% of women with endometriosis suffer from infertility 💔

Symptoms of endo may include heavy dysmenorrhoea, chronic pelvic pain, pain during and after in*******se, painful urination during menstruation, hypermenorrhea, slight leakage of blood between periods, infertility and gastrointestinal problems, especially during periods (including diarrhea, constipation, and flatulence)

This article reviewed the literature on the relationship between endometriosis and pregnancy. The findings suggest that women with endometriosis not only have difficulty conceiving but they also have a higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes which is consistent with previous research 🧐

Take-home message: pregnant women with endometriosis should be categorised as a high-risk pregnancy and need more care during pregnancy and postpartum 👶

CONFERENCE PRESENTATION // how is it March already and I haven’t gotten around to sharing the official pics from November? 😳

I know it’s late but I wanted to post these on the grid because this conference presentation was one of my highlights from 2024 🤓

In case you missed it, this was for the First 1000 Days Conference where I spoke about the importance of nutrition from preconception to parenthood 🧑‍🧑‍🧒

Unfortunately, most people don’t understand the importance of preconception nutrition and this really needs to be utilised more strategically to strengthen outcomes for couples, support optimal perinatal and long-term offspring health 👊

Prenatal dietitians can enhance outcomes during preconception (improve egg and s***m quality) and reduce risk of complications during pregnancy 🤰

Women need more support to navigate body image issues from health professionals but we need to be mindful of the language we use when having conversations with people in larger bodies about their health 🗣️

I also spoke about the importance of role modelling and parental attitudes in shaping food preferences and body image in children 🧒

If you’d like to learn more, I’ve recorded a podcast episode to provide you with a full summary. You can listen to our podcast Nourish Bump and Beyond on Spotify and all major podcasting platforms 🎙️

TODDLER TRAVEL // finally getting around to sharing my photo dump from Tassie 😅 I’ve had a few people asking me to share a few toddler snack ideas while travelling so I wanted to share a few tips from our most recent travel 🧭

Miss S is in her terrible two era so this was probably the most challenging trip for us given her age and also because we have decided to go screen-free (more on this later) which meant we had to work extra hard to keep her engaged. We stayed in a hotel so didn’t have access to a kitchen.

These are all the foods we used for toddler snacks 👇
⭐️ Corn thins + crackers
⭐️ Fruit: banana, apples, nectarine/ peach, berries
⭐️ Cow’s milk and yoghurt pouches
⭐️ Mini cucumber and tomato
⭐️ Chia seeds

We were away for a week and went to Woolworths 3 times to top up on snacks. Overall, we had a great time away but not gonna lie, travelling with a toddler is also hard work and does need some planning. Here are top 3 tips for enjoying vacation with a toddler ⬇️

1️⃣ Practice mindful eating and try to eat slowly when possible. You may be used to scoffing down your meals when you have a toddler around but try to taste the foods using all your senses even if it’s just for part of the meal or for your tea/ coffee ☕️

2️⃣ Take turns with your partner. This might mean that one person watches kids while the finishes eating. Most of the time, our two year old was done with her meal earlier than us so one of us took her out and entertained her. This sometimes meant we had to eat a meal in two rounds 🤣

3️⃣ Give something to your child that will keep them busy for a few mins like a cucumber or a piece of fruit. We made sure to carry some snacks so we could use it when we were out and about (on the pram and child carrier) and while we are waiting for food at restaurants 🍽️

Want more tips like these? I’ve recorded a podcast episode with sharing our tips and tricks from travelling with our toddlers 🙌

GUT HEALTH AND PREGNANCY // February is Gut Health Month so I wanted to share some content on gut health and pregnancy 🤰

I really enjoyed attending Gut Health symposium earlier this month with
and learning about the latest research 🧐

In the world of gut health, the gut microbiome refers to the intestinal portion of our digestive system and it harbours the most diverse and abundant microbial community in the body.

The development of the human gut microbiome begins before birth and is affected by factors such as maternal oral microbiome, mode of delivery, maternal and infant diet and environmental exposures.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy has digestive implications. This may lead to uncomfortable symptoms such constipation or bloating.
