Dieting alone will no doubt result in losing weight but it will inevitably return when you stop dieting. This is because when you lose weight, you also lose muscle mass unless you exercise to maintain and increase muscle density. Combining a regular exercise regime with a balanced and controlled diet will ensure that the weight you lose will be from a reduction in body fat percentage. A good perso

Everybody has different requirements from an exercise programme. Some people may want to ‘lose weight and get fit’ whilst another may want to gain muscle or increase flexibility. With personal training it is never a case of ‘one size fits all.’ That is why I take the time to sit down with you in order to fully understand your requirements and agree a realistic time frame. That way you can be sure your programme is designed for you and you alone. Strength and endurance training
Let's imagine that you are already ‘fit.’ You might even be an athlete or a key player in a particular sport and you want to improve your chances of winning. This is where a programme that includes particular types of exercises primarily targeting either ‘fast twitch’ or 'slow twitch’ muscles, depending on the type of performance you need to improve, will provide the right results. Many people, and women in particular, do not want to end up looking like ‘Arnie’ but would like to see a little more definition in their muscles. A combination of high intensity interval training (HIIT) to burn off that layer of fat and weight training to improve muscle size and density will help you achieve your goals. Posture improvement
So many people suffer from poor posture or worse, from back problems caused by or exacerbated by poor posture. In many cases this is a direct result of inadequate core stability. By ‘core’ we mean the girdle of muscles that surround your waist. These include the abdominals in the front, obliques at the sides and spinae erectus muscles that surround the lower spine. A programme that includes core stability or core development exercises will, in many cases, bring about a real improvement in posture and can even be a cure for many people who suffer from backache. Weight loss, muscle gain
The term ‘weight loss’ can be misleading as what most people really want to achieve is a reduction in body fat. This is most effectively achieved by a combination of cardio-vascular exercise to burn fat and body weight, or weight training, to improve muscle density. It is muscle and not fat that burns calories which are why diets (any diets) are ineffective in the long term. The right combination of the right types of exercise will ensure the right results. Sport specific training
Perhaps you are a Rugby player, you want to improve your game, and a large aspect of any sport is fitness, being functionally fit to perform in the right environment. Even if you are a top class athlete you can always improve your game through a carefully crafted regime of sports- specific exercise and diet.

7 years ago I pushed a tank for 10 hours up and down a sled track.

It was 10 years since my Mum had passed away and I wanted to do something in memory / to raise money for charity.

So on World cancer day I did just that.

In the lead up to it I completed a few one hour training sessions and some longer 2 hour stints on the track.

My mindset was if I can complete 2 hours all I have to do is repeat that five times.

I’d only given myself the month of January to prepare as it was a last minute decision.

The reality is if you commit to something and go all in on it you’d be surprised what you can achieve in a month if you put all your effort in.

I raised around £4000 at the time which doesn’t sound like much but every little helps.

This is a gentle reminder that you’d be surprised about what you can achieve if your put your mind to it.

The mind will always give up before you do but like anything you can train yourself to keep pushing.

Just gotta put one foot infront of the other and keep moving forward.

Find someone who looks at you like I look at this muffin 😂 ❤️

On a serious note though I’ve had a lot of conversations recently on calories.

Unfortunately “calorie deficit” has been popularised in the fitness industry, now don’t get me wrong calories are the determining factor when it comes to fat loss.

However, fat loss should only be a phase not a constant.

Eating less and moving more is good to get the weight off but what happens after?

Diet for too long or in too much of a deficit and you’ll find yourself in a state of REDS (relative energy deficiency syndrome).

Clinically low energy availability for females is below 30kcal / kg / fat free mass and it’s 20kcal / kg / get free mass for the guys.

This leads to; 👇🏻

👉🏻 Increased cortisol

👉🏻 Decreased energy

👉🏻 Decrease performance

👉🏻 Decreased lean body mass (muscle)

👉🏻 Decreased Libido

👉🏻 Decreased Hormones T3 / IGF

👉🏻 Impaired immune system

If you want to be healthy, perform day to day and get stronger you need to ensure you’re eating adequate calories and while foods to support your goals.

Just make sure you leave some room in your calories for things you enjoy too.

It’ll make your life a lot happier 🫠

Are you eating enough fibre? 🤨

Protein and got a lot of popularity over the years and for good reason..

But Fibre I find for most people is the missing link to their nutrition 🥗

Have you got regular bowel movements? 💩

Do you notice disruptions in digestion? 🧐

In perosnal experience I am a big fibre guy and try to include a heap of variety in my diet 👇🏻

👉🏻 Avocado 🥑
👉🏻 A large salad daily 🥗
👉🏻 Plenty of vegetables
👉🏻 Couple of pieces of fruit

The impact it can have not only on your health, performance and body composition is huge ⬆️

And in my opinion, is just as important as hitting your protein 🍗

Do you know what one of the biggest factors for your health and fitness success is?

Fun.

It’s probably one of the most overlooked things I find with the reason why someone didn’t stick to their diet or exercise programme.

It lacked enjoyment. 😒

If your bored of your training and your night excited to get back in the gym each week.

How long do you really think you’re going to last being committed to showing up? 🤨

If your nutrition and diet is as bland as eating a packet of water biscuits, how long do you think it’ll be until you crave something else? 🧐

If you enjoy eating similar foods daily and you genuinely enjoy it, fantastic.

I do myself, but I put effort into making my diet and meals exciting and tasty so I enjoy them.

It doesn’t feel like a “diet” 😋

Which is what your approach to nutrition should be, a lifestyle.

Flexible, fuelling and nourishing.

Your training should tick the boxes of being healthy, functioning and then performing for whatever specifically you want to perform in.

Most people will fit into the category of the 4 F’s.

Fat loss ✂️

Function 🧠

Fitness 🏃🏻‍♂️

Fun 🤪

If you tick those 4 boxes with your fitness goals you can’t go wrong, your programming and periodisation should encompass all these elements 🚀

If it does, then showing up should be easy and you should be excited about heading into each week with what you have in store 💪🏻

If not, it’s time to have a conversation 📲

I get it.

You haven’t got long to train.

You’re in a rush to get things done.

But the reality is, that’s probably why you’re not making progress.

If you want to get stronger, you need time to recover between sets.

If you want to grow more muscle you need time under tension and time to recover between sets.

If you want to move better, you need to develop the movement pattern and skill of the lift.

This all requires time, effort and intent.

That doesn’t mean you have to be in the gym for hours upon end.

We can manipulate training variables and programming principles to help you be as efficient as possible with time spent in the gym.

Supersets.

Giant sets.

Rest pause sets.

Dropsets.

German body composition training.

Escalating density training.

Variable muscle action.

The list goes on..

If you’re not making progress and feel like giving up, don’t.

I understand it can be demotivating.

But you’ve already done the hardest part of training, walking through the front door.

You just need a plan to help get you from A to B that works and someone to hold you accountable to it.

That’s where coaching comes in 🤙🏻

Saturday morning thoughts 🧠

👉🏻 Was having a conversation this week with someone in there 30s and they said they felt “old”

👉🏻 They lacked energy, had a few niggles and pain and had normalised this as getting “older”

👉🏻 The thing is, if you’re in your 30s, you’re not old, even your 40s. You just FEEL OLD.

There’s a big difference.

We need to change the narrative.

You should be thriving in your 30s.

Full of energy ⚡️

Thriving in your career and life 🚀

Your body feeling strong, robust and like you could do anything 🏋🏻‍♂️

It all starts with your decision to choose hard not easy.

Hard times create hard men.

Hard men create easy times.

Easy times create soft men.

Soft men create hard times.

And the cycle continues 👆🏻

See sometimes taking the easy road at that moment in time feels like it’s going to give us the rest we deserve..

Snoozing the alarm ⏰

Missing that workout 🏋🏻‍♂️

Running late and grabbing a slice of toast on the way out 🍞

But really it doesn’t help us..

It only makes things harder 🙅🏻‍♂️

The consistent habits of showing up everyday with the right behaviours are hard no doubt about it 😅

But I’ll tell you what..

They make things Easier 👌🏻

They give you energy ⚡️

Raise your game 🙋🏻‍♂️

Improve your worth 🙏🏻

Protect the asset 👇🏻

Sleep is your biggest superpower however it’s something that alludes a lot of us.

If you want to drive better cognitive function, performance and day to day mood and energy then improving you shut eye should be top of the list ⚡️

Follow the 3,2,1 rule as mentioned in this post and you’ll be on your way to driving better sleep habits 🚀

I also do a few additional things that I’ve found beneficial to my deep sleep, REM and quality mentioned in the final slide 👉🏻
