We are just human beings trying to survive

This is a staple to any psychoeducation I do. Which is a staple to most therapy work I do.

These are the main autonomic nervous system responses when we perceive a threat. They may be physical or mental. They may be literal or flavour behaviou e.g. aggressive tone is fight and avoidance can be flight. The threat can also be physical or a threat to social and psychic life.

Ultimately they are survival responses, evolved or designed (depending on your beliefs) to keep us alive.

They can become ingrained responses and they can often be more easily triggered if we've had past trauma.

Being aware of them can be part of understanding ourselves and when we understand ourselves, we tend to be able to move more easily towards our goals.
