Facial surgery isn’t one-size-fits-all and neither is where it’s performed.

After decades devoted to plastic surgery, I’ve learned that the most important decision isn’t just what procedure to perform, but how and where it should be done safely.

Some minor facial procedures that involve only the skin or soft tissue can be carefully performed in accredited clinic rooms under local anaesthesia.

When appropriate, this allows patients to return home the same day with minimal disruption.

More complex procedures particularly those involving deeper tissues or general anaesthesia require the environment of a licensed hospital, where specialised equipment, monitoring, and recovery support are available. Procedures such as facelift surgery fall into this category.

Understanding the difference is part of responsible surgical care.
