It’s most commonly performed to create a more proportionate appearance between the ears and facial features.

At the three-week mark, swelling has typically reduced, and the ears begin to settle into their new position.

However, healing continues over the following months, and final results vary from person to person.

Post-PDT Recovery: What You Need to Know

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a light-based treatment used on sun-damaged or certain skin conditions.

While effective, it does require downtime. Here’s what to expect after your session:

🛡 For the first 48 hours
• Strictly avoid sun exposure
• Wear a broad-brimmed hat and protective clothing if outdoors briefly
• Your skin will be extremely sensitive to light

🔄 What to expect next
• Peeling or flaking may begin around days 2–4
• Avoid picking or scratching your skin
• Redness, crusting and peeling are part of the healing response
• Swelling may be eased with a cold compress
• Use bland, soap-free cleansers and moisturisers as advised by your practitioner

⚠️ Contact the clinic if you notice
• Bleeding
• Pus
• Development of cold sores

📅 Recovery may take 7–14 days.

📆 Around two weeks after otoplasty (ear reshaping):

Most patients find that swelling has started to settle. Stitches are often removed by this stage, and the early signs of healing can become more noticeable.

That said, recovery always looks a little different for each individual.
