When it comes to Digestive health
First seek neurological support of those processes that directly influence it within the body, then fuel and support with optimal nutrition.
Total expenditures for GI diseases approach $135.9 billion annually in the USAโgreater than for other common diseases.
YIKES! - so why is there so many people struggling in the area of digestive health?
There are a number of clear factors in play here... some controllable and some that appear not. We would like to discuss two of these key factors that can help you return optimal digestive health.
1. GUT-BRAIN relationship.
We have all seen the workings of this relationship. Have you ever wondered why you rarely feel hungry went under acute stress? That's the gut-relationship in play.
In this situation, your brain regulates your stomach acid and digestive environment via very important centres in your brainstem (hypothalamus) so that you relinquish the now lower priority digestive function, to the higher priorities of circulation, fight and flight responses, and nervous system nutrition so you remain on "high alert" and it all happens automatically without you even knowing.
uncontrolled stress, be it emotional, physical or mental may influence this delicate relationship.
2. INFLAMMATION. - Sugar and the insulin assault!
Blood sugar control = control of cellular inflammation.
What do I mean by this?
high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia) requires your pancreas to secrete insulin into your blood to take up this sugar into your liver, tissues and muscles so that you can function. This is a normal process. However, do this excessively and your body will store this sugar as glycogen and promote fat storage within your body. This is called insulin resistance and left unchecked, will lead to health decline.
Prolonged sugar intake over time will cause your insulin to stumble, restricting this conversion, leaving you with elevated blood sugar levels and often accompanied weight gain elevated body fat and poor health.
What's this got to do with inflammation?
Hyperglycaemia negatively impacts your immune system! This is HUGE. The result is the production of a cascade of inflammatory cells and activity that may lead to many disease states including GUT and DIGESTIVE problems.
I share the view of many, in that there is an underlying INFLAMMATORY process contributing at least in part to the following clinical presentations:
๐๐ป IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
๐๐ป "leaky gut" syndrome
๐๐ป Lactose intolerance
๐๐ป Gluten intolerance
๐๐ป Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis
๐๐ป diarrhoea, flatulence and constipation.
---WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THIS WITH OUR CLIENTS?---
1. NIS (Neural Integration System)
This profound modality is returning health to many by directly influencing the nervous systems control of the digestive process.
The nervous system impacts gut motility, stomach and pancreatic enzymes, stomach acid levels, bile delivery and more. You must have an integrated nervous system in control of these processes, first and foremost for optimal health.
Get assessed by an NIS practitioner in your area...PM us for more info.
2. STABILISE BLOOD SUGAR and you will reduce digestive inflammation. How?
a. Reducing the intake of dietary simple sugars
b. Protein is the "slow burner" and demands less insulin than its carbohydrate cousins.
Increase the net protein utilisation, while reducing sugars and you start to transition toward a much improved blood sugar profile.
We use and prescribe for our clients the 11 day elimination-reset programme (ERShred) as an optimal starting point for digestive RESET.
11-day cleanse program is helping people claim back their digestive health using scientifically proven cleansing methods to shift the balance away from dietary cravings, toward cleansing, improved blood sugar control, immunity while promoting the release of toxins and inflammation. PM for more info about the ERShred.
What we haven't address here is VERY important too..
Infection, anatomical and structural misalignments, obstructions, tumors and more must always be considered as possibilities of digestive problems and such things can influence your pathway to optimal health. Always consult with your primary health care practitioner or doctor before implementing a change of diet or course of action, to see that it is suitable for you.
If you have questions, drop them in the comments below... we would love to hear from you.
Best in health!
