Many lessons learned on this journey.

Truth is, there is no “magic” formula.

Only hard work and dedication.

Show up everyday. Start making changes.

Whatever you may or may not think is possible for your child - don’t let it hold you back from asking questions and doing the work.

Just start with making realistic changes that will last long term.

And don’t let anyone tell you it’s not possible.

DM me “SUPPORT” if you need a helping hand on the journey!

We’ve experience heavy metal overload first hand when my son’s tests revealed that he had higher levels of aluminium and lead ‼️

Heavy metals are all around us and unfortunately many kids with autism, ADHD and developmental delays suffer from heavy metal overload.

So what can we do about it?

Minimise your child’s exposure!

How do we do that?

Start making some changes in your daily living:

💧 Ensure clean water - use a high-quality filter
🚫 Stop using aluminium foil on food and in cooking
🧁 Use organic baking powder without aluminium
👣 Avoid wearing shoes inside your home
🍚 Ensure balanced intake of rice products
💅🏻 Beware of aluminium in deodorants and cosmetic products
🧼 Wash your child’s hands and toys thoroughly

These are just a handful of practical tips you can make today!

Supporting your child’s methylation and detox pathways as well as ensuring sufficient trace mineral intake is vital to support elimination of these toxic compounds.

And the list goes on!

Is your child suffering from gut and digestive issues?

If the answer is yes,

Did you know that your child’s gut bacteria can affect their brain chemistry and therefore also their daily behaviour?

Many of our kid’s challenging behaviours are linked to chronic digestive issues like constipation, abdominal pain, inflammation, reflux and more.

So what can you do as a parent?

Finding out what is causing your child’s gut imbalance and then addressing these underlying issues.

Resolving gastrointestinal symptoms is done by repairing the gut step by step.

So how do we do that?

✅ Find the root causes of your child’s gut problems
✅ Functional testing
✅ Removing the bad and adding in good
✅ A therapeutic diet
✅ Support digestion
✅ Working on picky eating
✅ Restoring micronutrient deficiencies
✅ Support microbiome diversity

When these underlying triggers are addressed your child will be in less pain and many behavioural issues will start to reduce.

Methylation 🧬

Everyone talks about it and it often involves advice on how to supplement with B6, B12 and folate. And in many cases, this may offer a lot of support.

But for those with a child that seems to react to methyl supplements or is hesitant about adding more supplements to their routine - this post is for you!

There are many things you can do to support your child’s methylation cycle naturally and this involves:

➡️ Movement - Adequate daily exercise can go a long way!

➡️ Nutrition - Offering a nutrient-dense diet filled with organic wholefoods, good quality grass-fed meat, eggs, veggies, fruit, legumes, nuts and seeds.

➡️ Sleep - Our bodies work extra hard to detox during the night so prioritise this!

➡️ Sunshine - Adequate light upon awakening in the morning (and during the day!) is critical in the production of hormones like melatonin and other neurotransmitters.

➡️ Healthy indoor quality - Check for mould, keep humidity levels below 60%, filter the air and check for any water damage.

➡️ Relaxation - Support your child’s para-sympathetic nervous system by calming their mind. Go for a walk in nature or whatever you feel is relaxing for them.

Balancing methylation can be tricky but starting small is a good starting point if you are feeling overwhelmed!

A follow up on my last post about your child’s need for detoxification!

There is a lot we can do to support these processes and many parents want to dive into detox soon as they know the benefits, but the truth is:

SLOWER is always better. Many things needs to be taken into consideration when optimizing your child’s ability to get rid of toxins, pathogens and heavy metals.

The safest way to support your child’s detox pathways is to ensure that these 5 things are prioritised on a daily basis:

➡️ Moving the body - Movement is a great way to support your child’s drainage pathways. This will allow for a smoother detox process. Jumping on a trampoline, running, playing outside or any physical activity is great to get the lymph going!

➡️ Gut & elimination - Optimal drainage also includes healthy bowel movements and elimination. Ensuring your child has at least one bowel movement daily is critical in order to excrete toxins and pathogens. Constipation always needs to be addressed when talking about detox.

➡️ Nutrition - If you don’t have good nutrition you don’t have good cellular detox. Focus on organic wholefoods that are nutrient-dense and rich in gut-healthy fibre.

➡️ Sweating - We know that we can excrete heavy metals and mycotoxins through our sweat, so anything that will get your child sweating is a plus. I love hot Epsom salt baths or infrared saunas. Use infrared saunas mindfully, not more than 5-10 mins max per session.

➡️ Clean water - Ensuring clean water (and good amounts of it) is key when helping reduce your child’s toxic load. Unfortunately, our tap water is often contaminated with chemicals, heavy metals, drugs, synthetic hormones and pesticides. Using a good water filter (reversed osmosis) is highly recommended.

Is your child experiencing any of these symptoms?

Then individualised detoxification and methylation support may be helpful.

I find that the word “detox” is very misused across the board and I want to clarify that I am not talking about putting your child on a heavy chelation program or a “detox cleanse”.

Detoxing happens every day in our bodies and there are many things we can do to support our child’s detoxification pathways and making sure certain chemicals, toxins and pathogens are safely eliminated on a daily basis.

This can help with your child’s developmental delays and regain lost milestones.

SAVE FOR LATER ✅

I know first-hand how challenging it can be to parent a child with anxiety, imbalanced moods and other behavioural issues.

The underlying factors of these behaviours are often many, but there is always a nutritional and biochemical element to these symptoms.

Whether your child is dealing with undermethylation, poor detoxification, nutritional deficiencies or gastrointestinal issues, there is always a way to support your child.

With the proper guidance and support, you too can help your child thrive and find joy in everyday moments.

Remember, always consult with a health care practitioner before starting your child on a supplement.

Let me know how you go with these strategies 💚

Did you know that non-celiac gluten sensitivity can cause brain inflammation and dysfunction in your child?

If your child with autism is consuming gluten and showing symptoms of:

Chronic fatigue
Brain fog
Cognitive impairment

Then removing gluten (including, casein and soy) might be of huge benefit to your child’s development and ability to overcome behavioural symptoms.

Have you removed gluten and casein from your child’s diet? Did you notice an improvement?

SAVE THIS POST ✅

There are many ways to help our special needs kids, but nothing beats the daily habits that set the foundation for a healthy brain and body.

No supplement or therapy will give you the same lasting results as healthy eating, a healthy lifestyle and a clean environment.

These 7 things have become a norm for our family.

And you can do it too!

This is the best place to start if you want to improve your child’s wellbeing and help manage daily overwhelming symptoms.

SAVE THIS POST ✅

Is your child suffering from stubborn picky eating behaviours?

Then it might be time to start looking into your child’s gut health.

Common questions 👇🏻

Is picky eating the reason behind your child’s digestive dysfunction or is it the other way around?

Well.. a little bit of both!

Are there practical feeding tips to get your child to try new foods? Yes.

The “food chaining” strategy is one of a few strategies that can be helpful.

Will these tips “fix” picky eating behaviours and broaden your child’s diet long term? Not necessarily.

So what can you do?

We need to address the root cause of your child’s fussiness and food aversions (sensory issues are included here) and find out what is going on with your child’s digestive system.

Start healing the gut while correcting nutritional deficiencies, particularly zinc and iron.

A good reminder is also to be patient. Healing your child’s gut may take some time, but it can be done with the proper guidance and nutrition.

DM me for more fussy eating tips! 💚

SAVE THIS POST ✅

An add-on to my post earlier this week on supporting your child’s methylation.

A good reminder for those with a child that reacts to methyl supplements or is hesitant about adding more supplements to their routine.

You CAN support your child’s methylation cycle by providing the right foods and environment.

These are just a few of the many nutrients that will help balance methylation and support the overall wellbeing of your child.

And remember- everything in moderation! Too much of any food can create issues long term.

Don’t underestimate the power of food 🔥
