Hi all, I've just updated this business page which was formerly Sydenham Acupuncture. I am now practicing acupuncture, massage and other eastern therapies (including moxibustion, cupping and gua sha) as an after hours hobby business within my apartment.

As I currently work full time in my new field of podiatry during regular business hours, this is a very limited service available only to neighbours in the building as well as previous Sydney clientele passing through the area for ski trips.

Appointment times available for this service will be weekends and 1 person per day at 6.30pm on weeknights Mon-Thurs with a maximum of 5 people per week.

The website links to my booking calendar to make setting appointment times easy. Health fund rebates and EFTPOS are available for the time being however this may change depending on demand.

Dear Friends, I have been getting a lot of calls lately asking if I am open. Though I would encourage people to stay home as much as possible right now, I am open for business during this lockdown. TCM is considered an essential service however appointment times are very limited as I am also working as an essential worker doing contactless deliveries for Woolworths from Sat to Wed in the afternoons and quite late into the night.

If you are not vaccinated and/or are living with vulnerable persons please call to discuss before making a booking using my online booking calendar.

I (Victoria) am now fully vaccinated and will be getting tested weekly, most likely Wednesdays at least until the end of September. To make the clinic as safe as possible, windows will remain open (heat lamps will be used to balance the fresh air) and I will be limiting appointments in the clinic to 1 person per day during lockdown. If you are a vulnerable person then it would be best to only come in just after confirmation of my negative result each week (i.e, Thurs/Fri).

I am also available for over the phone or video chat consultations for Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine, or at home self Gua Sha treatment coaching for singles, partners or flatmates.

P.S.. Those who do come into the clinic will be required to wear a mask.

⚠️ Public Service Announcement ⚠️

🌿 Andrographis paniculata - or Chuan Xin Lian in TCM - is a commonly used herb, and is used in many herbal formulas for treatment of cold and flu symptoms, including the popular Armaforce by Bioceuticals.

⚠️ However, recently the TGA has released a safety advisory about products containing this herb, as it has been shown to cause changes in taste (including a complete loss of taste) in a small number of individuals.

😲 These effects have been noted most frequently after 2 weeks of using the herb, but can happen sooner. It can take a few weeks for the normal sense of taste to return, but not everyone affected has regained their normal sense of taste.

‼️Important information: Sudden onset of loss of taste or altered taste may be a symptom of a serious medical condition, including COVID-19. Anyone experiencing loss of taste should seek assessment by a health professional or call the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080.

🌿 Herbal medicine still has a statistically MUCH lower rate of adverse effects compared to pharmaceutical medicines, so don't be scared to use herbs, but the point here is to be informed and aware. If you are using this herb and notice a change in your taste buds, discuss this with your health professional.

Sydenham acupuncture has been scrubbed from top to bottom. I have put in place PPE masks if you would like to wear one when you visit and will be using disposable covers on the tables moving forward.

I have also removed some of my pretty table cloths so that hard surfaces can be wiped down after every client.

For now I will remain open to appointments for musculoskeletal disorders, anxiety disorders or any other ongoing issues with regular clients. This may change as the situation develops.

That said I am at university again studying podiatry, and will be travelling on occasion for clinical observation at Wyong hospital which is situated adjacent to a Covid19 testing facility. For that reason I don't want to see any clients that are particularly vulnerable incase I become unwittingly a carrier.

Please do not come to the clinic at all if you are an at risk person for the time being.

I will be updating my website in the next coming days with options for phone and Skype video consults for anyone infected or anyone that is interested in protecting their immune system with traditional Chinese herbs. These can be posted to your letterbox within 24 hours from my supplier in a letter shaped envelope so you shouldn't need to pick it from the post offcie.

In time like this herbal medicines are key treatment options when there is very little Western medicine can do for viruses (unless you need to go to hospital of course).

I will also be offering Skype video consults to supervise and help people perform Gua Sha on themselves at home. This technique is brilliant at helping clear the lungs and break down phlegm. You would get the most benefit from this if you have help from a quarantine buddy that can help you with the hard to reach places on your back over the lungs. So please reach out to me if this interests you.

I fell in love with Gua Sha for the first time when I had viral asthma in China during my 3rd year internship in 2008. It literally saved me. After 6 sleepless nights coughing I tried some Gua Sha on my arms and chest I was able to lay down and sleep for a whole 8 hours without coughing within ten minutes.

Sunday: 9am-2.30pm
Monday, Tuesday: 8am-9pm.
Thursday: 9am-9pm.

7.30am sessions available by request 7 days - these can not be booked online and will incur a $15 surcharge. Please call if you need one of these times outside of normal hours.
