Dissociation isn’t shutting down. It’s your nervous system trying to keep you safe.

At Brave Therapy™, we understand that dissociation is often a survival response rooted in trauma. In therapy, we notice the subtle signs - when a client retreats, goes blank, or avoids eye contact. These aren’t setbacks. They’re important signals.

Rather than pushing through, we work gently with these moments. Building safety. Reconnecting body and mind. Helping you return to yourself without fear.

If you’ve felt disconnected, fragmented, or “not fully here,” you’re not alone - and you’re not broken.

Starting therapy is not always about hope.
For many trauma survivors, it begins in survival mode.

At Brave Therapy™, we understand that early relational wounds can leave you feeling fragmented -disconnected from your emotions, body, and sense of self. Your nervous system isn’t “overreacting.” It’s protecting you, shaped by a past where safety was missing.

In the therapy room, our first step isn’t fixing. It’s building a felt sense of safety through consistent presence, attunement, and nervous system regulation. Healing begins when your system realises it’s finally safe to stop bracing.

Follow for compassionate, bodymind-centred trauma care.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is one of the most common mental health conditions - yet many people struggle in silence, unsure of what they're experiencing or how to get help.

Swipe through this post to better understand the symptoms of MDD, how it's diagnosed, and the treatment options that truly support recovery - especially when depression is rooted in trauma or chronic stress.

You are not your diagnosis.
But putting words to your experience can help you feel seen - and begin to feel supported.

At Brave Therapy™, we approach depression through a bodymind lens. We know that healing isn’t just in your head - it’s in your nervous system, your relationships, and your story.

➡️ Follow along for trauma-informed support, psychoeducation, and nervous system-based care.

Burnout doesn’t always look like collapse.
Sometimes, it looks like numbness.
Sometimes, it looks like pushing through - until your body says no more.

Whether you're living with chronic illness, holding space for others, or just trying to survive the pace of modern life - burnout can creep in quietly.

Swipe through to recognise the signs and see what support can look like.
Burnout is not a weakness. It’s a nervous system calling for rest, boundaries, and care.

At Brave Therapy™, we support nervous system healing and emotional recovery with approaches that meet you where you are.

🖤💛❤️ NAIDOC Week 2025: A 50-Year Legacy

This year marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of NAIDOC Week, a movement born from the fight for recognition and rights.

The 2025 theme - “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy” - celebrates the past and looks boldly to the future, led by empowered young voices, grounded in cultural strength, and guided by the wisdom of our Elders.

This week, we honour where we’ve come from and celebrate those who will carry the torch forward.

Nervous system regulation isn’t just for the therapy room – it’s a daily practice that helps you move from shutdown to connection, from chaos to calm.

✨ Want some extra support between sessions? Here are three therapist-recommended apps that can help you gently regulate, soothe, and reconnect with yourself – wherever you are.

💛 These aren’t a replacement for therapy, but they are beautiful companions on your healing journey.

Apps: iChill, HeartMath & EMDR Tappers

Not all therapy is talk-based.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured trauma therapy that supports the brain to reprocess distressing experiences using bilateral stimulation - like guided eye movements or tapping.

Unlike traditional therapy, EMDR helps reduce the emotional charge of past events by working with the nervous system, not just the mind.

At Brave Therapy™, I use EMDR and other brain-based approaches, like Brainspotting, to support clients through complex trauma, chronic stress, and long-held emotional pain.

If you’ve tried talking and still feel stuck, it doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
It means your body might need something different.

Trauma lives in the body - and healing happens when we include it.

Being a therapist can be deeply meaningful - and deeply taxing.
Holding space for trauma, complexity, and nervous system activation takes more than clinical skill. It requires attunement, reflection, and ongoing support.

At Brave Therapy™, Andi offers trauma-informed supervision for psychotherapists, counsellors, and mental health workers who want to:

✔️ Deepen their work with complex trauma
✔️ Integrate bodymind approaches like Somatic Experiencing and attachment-based therapy
✔️ Reflect on the relational field and therapeutic presence
✔️ Stay connected to themselves while supporting others

Supervision with Andi isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s a space to think, feel, pause, and reflect - so you can keep doing the work in a way that’s sustainable and aligned.

This space is for clinicians who value integrity, curiosity, and care. If that’s you, welcome.

Trauma isn’t always loud or obvious. Often, it shows up in the subtle ways we protect ourselves - pulling away, freezing up, or reacting quickly when something feels too much.

Here are 3 truths many trauma survivors wish others understood:

🌀 Healing doesn’t follow a timeline.
There’s no set pace for recovery. What takes one person weeks might take another years. It’s not a race - it’s a process of feeling safe enough to soften.

🧠 “Overreacting” is often a nervous system trying to stay safe.
Reactions that seem intense on the outside often come from years of learned survival. It’s not attention-seeking. It’s protection.

💛 Feeling safe takes time - especially with people.
When connection has felt dangerous in the past, trust is something that needs to be built gently, over time, with consistency and care.

At Brave Therapy™, we offer trauma-informed, bodymind psychotherapy that supports your nervous system, your story, and your pace. You don’t need to heal alone - and you don’t need to rush.

➡️ Follow for grounded support, nervous system care, and psychotherapy that meets you where you are.
