Today is Rare Disease Day. đź’ś

Rare Disease Day is a global movement to raise awareness of the more than 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease.

Mitochondrial disease is one of these rare conditions. It is complex, often multi-system, and can affect people at any age — from infancy through to adulthood. For many families, the journey to diagnosis can be long and challenging.

At the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Centre, we are committed to:

🔬 Providing expert, multidisciplinary clinical care
🧬 Advancing research to better understand and treat mitochondrial disease
🤝 Supporting patients and families with coordinated, compassionate care
📚 Educating health professionals to improve earlier recognition and diagnosis

Rare Disease Day reminds us that behind every diagnosis is a person, a family, and a community seeking answers, support and hope.

If you or a loved one are living with mitochondrial disease and would like to learn more about our clinics or services, please visit our website or contact our team.

Together, we continue working toward better care, better understanding, and better outcomes for people living with mitochondrial disease.

Today is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

Mitochondrial disease affects people in different and often hidden ways. On this day, we recognise the resilience of every person living with mito and the families who support them. We are committed to providing excellence in clinical care, education, and research so our community feels seen, supported, and understood.

Together, we can build a more inclusive future.

Research is the driving force behind progress in mitochondrial disease care. Ongoing studies into mitochondrial function are offering real hope for reversing or reducing symptoms.

Scientists are uncovering new possibilities for treatment and a healthier future for those affected.

This World Mitochondrial Diseases Week, we recognise the vital role of research in bringing hope to patients, families, and the global mito community.
