What exercises should you take to complete failure?

08/04/2026

If you’re not regularly training to failure, you’ll lose your reference point of what to base your reps on reserve off. Do that and you’ll struggle to train hard enough to build muscle and earn yourself a “science based lifters” physique (not the Jeff Nippard type, the 14 y/o tiktok type).

This was me in 2018

Working 6am - 8/9pm on the gym floor as a face to face personal trainer.

I used to joke around that I may as well sleep in the gym because it’d be easier than having to go home, wake up at 4:30 and do it all again.

When I wasn’t on the floor with clients, I was trying to help potential clients on the gym floor.

And if I wasn’t doing that, I was posting on social or servicing the handful of online clients I had early on.

I grew up watching my dad leave home early to go to work, so have never struggled with work ethic and the older I get the more grateful I am for the fact that I got to see that.

The grind I had in my 20s, allowed me to grind just as hard now but in a different way. Online, with systems l, staff and clients all over the world.

In 2016, I was washing dishes on the weekend after I did personal training throughout the week just to make it work.

I dropped it as soon as I could but when you have no other choice but to make it happen, you usually pull through. Well that’s what I always trusted myself to do.

Posting this because you may be in a place where you’re just grinding away with no reward.

Just know, that you can only control a few variables and a big one of those, is work.

So put it in!

Every day, every week, every month.

Call me crazy but this isn’t a a coffee ☕

There’s room for this in your diet if you love a Frappuccino here and there, just know it’s a trade off. You’re trading a coffee for a milkshake. You’re kickstarting your day with a rush of sugar and 500cals in an instant.

I’m all for 80/20 but wouldn’t recommend this as a healthy way to start the day.

You can’t help but feel your abs in this 🩐

Flexing your spine in isolated ab exercises is not dangerous or unsafe, it’s what’s required to train them best for hypertrophy.

Start light and aim for 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps and you’ll feel it in the morning.
