🌟 Supporting the Neurodiverse Community: A Journey Toward Independence 🌟

Hello, wonderful community this is Ray! As the sole employee at Capable Life, I’m excited to share a heartfelt appeal for support in a mission that is close to my heart: empowering neurodiverse individuals to cultivate independence and thrive in their everyday lives.

At CapableLife, we believe in empowering the neurodiverse community through practical, hands-on experiences rather than simply “holding their hand.” Our structured, tailored approach to individual goals helps participants build real-world skills and self-confidence.

In this photo, one of our participants is exploring gardening supplies as part of a learning session. We are translating the knowledge gained from past courses into meaningful, on-the-ground practice—discussing tool selection, problem-solving methods, and project planning in a real environment. By linking classroom insights with these tasks, we help individuals deepen their understanding and feel confident and capable.

Our ultimate aim? To prepare everyone for success, whether in job interviews or everyday life skills. Through personalized coaching, mentoring, and goal-focused strategies, CapableLife opens doors to independence and employability. We’re proud to stand by our participants as they find their own unique path forward—developing new capabilities, building self-esteem, and harnessing their potential to shine in the world.

Absolutely great day at the CARE EXPO, networking and discussing ways we can help people to achieve a better quality of life.

If you have a friend or loved one who has their heart set on achieving goals, but you need a professional who is experienced in understanding the unique needs of the neurodiverse community. Then DM me to learn more.

Now here is a goal I have worked on with a participant.
● Self awareness and timetabling. (Sounds simple right! But let me explain how we create strategic and focused lessons)

Each goal has several skills that are relevant for the individual to develop (I have listed them below). I would establish the skills out as objectives then work out how best to deliver each in a lesson that is either focused on coaching, teaching or training and whether the participant would benefit and enjoy the lesson in the context of community or familiar settings.

Here are some skills that was relevant to my participant within this goal.
- Activities for Carthasis (e.g., lessons include education and practical skills like meditation, breathing techniques and ongoing homework with Journaling etc)
- Time management (e.g., lessons include scheduling, assisting in technology usage, forward planning etc)
- Taking ownership of mistakes (e.g., lessons include developing self awareness through role playing in perspective taking, conflict resolution etc)

I would love the opportunity to provide this service to more people. Changing lives and celebrating achievements with participants and their families. Note: Im very happy to sit down and work out how this service can fit any budget, time frame and goal.

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would include some Q&A that might help you fill in the gaps about my service and whether it is right for you. In a nutshell, my service is a tailored designed life skills program for each goal you have. Person centered and using a strength-based framework. Now, if you would like to ask questions, feel free to reply below or send me a DM to learn more.

Question 1:
What exactly does “1:1 life skills training” involve? Can you give me an example of what a session might look like?
Answer:
"1:1 life skills training is tailored to each participant’s specific goals and follows a clear, measurable plan for progress. For example, if the goal is employment readiness, we might set a specific objective of crafting a cover letter within two sessions and practicing customer service scenarios over four sessions. Each session includes targeted activities—such as preparing a resume, role-playing common workplace interactions, and setting practical weekly tasks. By the end of each month, we measure progress through feedback on each skill, ensuring that the participant gains confidence and readiness for real-world applications."
________________________________________

Question 2:
How do you tailor your sessions to fit each participant’s goals? What’s the process for setting these goals?
Answer:
"I start with an initial assessment to identify specific, achievable goals. For instance, if the participant aims to secure a job, we might break that goal down into measurable steps, such as creating a professional resume within two weeks, practicing mock interviews over three sessions, and preparing applications within a set time frame. Each goal is directly relevant to the participant’s overall objective and is approached in a way that supports steady progress. We regularly review these goals to ensure they stay aligned with the participant’s evolving needs."
________________________________________

Question 3:
Can you explain what “goal-oriented coaching” means? How will it help me in my daily life?
Answer:
"Goal-oriented coaching involves setting specific, time-bound goals that focus on real-world applications. For example, if the goal is to improve social interactions, we might define a measurable objective of initiating at least two new conversations per week over the next month. This structured, achievable approach helps build confidence and provides clear progress markers, making it easier to see growth over time. Each session is relevant to your daily life, giving you practical skills to handle social or workplace interactions with greater ease."
________________________________________

Question 4:
What’s the difference between your service and a traditional support worker? Why should I choose you over a general support service?
Answer:
"My service is designed to develop specific, measurable skills that promote long-term independence. Unlike traditional support, I focus on SMART goals that are directly relevant to your personal and professional growth. For example, if building job skills is a priority, we might set a goal of completing a resume within two sessions, practicing interview skills across four sessions, and assessing your progress monthly. This structured, time-bound approach allows us to track achievements and make adjustments as needed, ensuring you’re prepared for real-world situations."
________________________________________

Question 5:
I get anxious trying new things. How would you help me feel comfortable and build my confidence?
Answer:
"I understand that trying new things can be daunting. We start by setting small, achievable steps, such as practicing greetings or simple interactions over the first three sessions. Each step is specific and measurable, with a focus on building confidence incrementally. By focusing on relevant skills that directly contribute to your overall goal, we create a safe, supportive environment. Over time, we’ll increase the complexity of these tasks, setting a target for when you’ll be ready to try them in a real-world setting within a month."
________________________________________

Question 6:
How do you work with my family or support team to make sure everyone’s on the same page with my goals?
Answer:
"With permission, I coordinate with family and support teams to ensure everyone understands and contributes to your progress. We set specific, measurable goals that everyone can track, such as ‘developing interview readiness over four sessions’ or ‘practicing social skills twice a week.’ I provide time-bound updates and measurable feedback, and the support team can help reinforce these skills at home. This collaborative approach keeps everyone engaged and aligned with your progress."
________________________________________

Question 7:
If I need help with something specific, like learning to travel independently, how would you approach that?
Answer:
"We’d break down travel into specific steps, starting with learning to read bus schedules and practicing short trips together. Our measurable goal might be for you to complete an independent journey to a familiar place within two months. We set achievable, relevant milestones along the way, and each session builds on the previous one to reinforce skills. This time-bound approach ensures that by the set date, you’re prepared and confident to travel independently."
________________________________________

Question 8:
I sometimes struggle with motivation and staying on track. Do you have any strategies to keep me engaged in sessions?
Answer:
"Yes, I use SMART goals to help maintain motivation and track progress. We set specific objectives, like completing a cover letter within one session or practicing social interactions at least three times before our next meeting. These measurable, achievable milestones are directly relevant to your goals, so you can see your progress. By setting time-bound goals, we celebrate each accomplishment, keeping engagement high and giving you a sense of continuous achievement."
________________________________________

Question 9:
How often will we meet, and what’s expected of me between sessions?
Answer:
"Typically, sessions are weekly, though frequency can adjust based on your needs. Between sessions, I may suggest specific, achievable tasks, such as practicing an interview question or completing part of an application. These tasks are relevant to your main goals and time-bound to be completed by our next session. This approach helps maintain momentum and makes each session productive, setting a steady pace for achieving your objectives."
________________________________________

Question 10:
What if I don’t feel like I’m making progress? How would you adjust things to help me?
Answer:
"If progress feels slow, I’d re-evaluate our goals to ensure they’re realistic and achievable within the set timeframe. I’d also explore different approaches, such as breaking tasks into smaller, more measurable steps or adjusting the timing to make them feel more manageable. By refining the goals to be specific and time-bound, we can ensure steady progress that’s relevant and motivating."
________________________________________

Question 11:
Is there a way to track or measure my progress, so I can see what I’ve accomplished?
Answer:
"Yes, each session includes measurable objectives that align with your long-term goals. For example, if a goal is to feel interview-ready, we might track progress over a four-week period, with specific targets each week. At the end of each month, we review these time-bound goals together to see what’s been achieved and celebrate your progress. This structured approach ensures that every milestone is clear and measurable."
________________________________________

Question 12:
How flexible are you with scheduling? What if I need to reschedule or cancel a session?
Answer:
"I offer flexible scheduling, so if you need to reschedule, we can find a time that works within a specific timeframe to maintain consistency. If a session is missed, I aim to reschedule within the same week to stay on track with our time-bound goals. This flexibility ensures we meet your needs while maintaining progress."
________________________________________

Question 13:
If I feel nervous about community participation, like going to new places or meeting new people, how can you support me?
Answer:
"We’d start with specific, manageable tasks in a controlled environment, such as practicing introductions. Our goal might be to feel comfortable with new interactions within two sessions. Once this feels achievable, we set a time-bound goal for trying these skills in a community setting, like a café. Each step is measurable and relevant to your goals, so you gain confidence in your own time."
________________________________________

Question 14:
What should I expect as a first-time client? How will our first session look, and what should I prepare?
Answer:
"Our first session is an introduction, where we set specific, achievable goals based on your interests and needs. We’ll discuss relevant skills you’d like to build, then break these into measurable, time-bound steps for future sessions. There’s no need to prepare; just come as you are. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear idea of our plan and timelines for achieving each goal."
________________________________________

Question 15:
Do you have experience working with people who have similar goals or challenges as mine? Can you share any success stories?
Answer:
"Yes, I’ve supported many clients with employment and life skills goals. For example, one client worked on interview readiness, and we set a measurable goal to complete a resume and practice interviews over four weeks. By breaking down the process into specific, time-bound steps, they gained confidence and skills relevant to their goals. Every experience helps me tailor support that’s specific to each participant’s needs."

"Thank you for joining the Capable Life community!

I created Capable Life because I've always been passionate about helping and serving people with the highest integrity. Throughout my career, from serving in the military to studying psychology and working as a positive behavior support practitioner, I've consistently sought opportunities to make a positive impact.

The neurodiverse community holds a special place in my heart, and I'm excited to launch Capable Life to support them.

What Inspired Capable Life?

This year, I had the privilege of working closely with an amazing young man. His parents wanted him to develop the necessary life skills for independence, and their question – "what happens to my boy if something happens to us?" – deeply resonated with my own mission.

Life Skills Beyond Tasks

I believe that providing effective support for individuals with unique needs requires a personalized approach that fosters rapport and collaboration. My expanded life skills approach involves:

> Breaking down goals into needed skills.
> Providing step-by-step lessons.

> Using preferred learning styles.
> Adjusting approaches to achieve the outcomes.
> Working through complex personal barriers.
> Assigning personalised homework.
> Advocating and guiding practical activities in community.
> Using unique measures to assess progress.
> Celebrating achievements together.
All of which is detailed in a comprehensive report detailing the entire process from start to finish.
