Happy ( For yesterday)
International dog day is dedicated to celebrating the special bond between humans, and our loyal companions.
Most people know dogs are colour blind, but they are only red green colour blind, like most colour blind humans.
They actually see in shades of blue and yellow
Dogs also have more rod cells than humans which gives them superior motion detection, and better night vision than us!
Below we have our nurses with their much loved good boys and girls
Nurse Sophie with Rollo and Auri
Nurse Fiona with Ben, Ziggy and Max
Nurse Casey with Lucy
Nurse Oliva's Tasha
And Nurse Katie's rescue bull arab Sami

Its black cat appreciation day! So we have to re- share our favourite bundle of voids, Raven, Shuri, Loki and their other 2 black siblings. They all recovered beautifully from their eye ulcers and the best news, all five found new furever homes 🖤🖤

Its and when we say we love cats at Vet Vision, we mean we LOVE cats.
Most people know cats have excellent vision, but do you know why?
Cats have larger corneas and their pupils can dilate bigger than human eyes which lets in more light. They also have a unique membrane behind their retina called the tapetum lucidum, which bounces light back onto their retina a second time allowing their rod cells (which they have more of than humans) another chance to absorb light!
Not to mention cats have some of the most beautiful unique iris colours of any other mammals.

Here are some of our staffs' own much loved cats, Thomas, Tilly, Popsicle, Aniseed and of course, the infamous Egg

In honour of World Snake Day, meet Flathead, one of the incredible snakes we recently saw at The Pet Specialists

Flathead came into care with Sydney Wildlife (Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services) after being hit by a car, suffering significant trauma to her head. After we assessed her, she'd sadly lost vision in her right eye, but the good news is, she still has vision in her left, giving her a strong chance of returning to the wild.

She's now recovering under the watchful eyes of her dedicated carers. With time, care, and her remaining sharp eye, Flathead is expected to make a full recovery and get back to doing what she does best, thriving in the wild. 🐍💚

We were so happy with Sausage's outcome! We are glad we could help him see again ❤️

Check out this little Sausage! 👓🐶

Earlier this year at a routine checkup, 14-year-old dachshund, Sausage's vet noticed his eyes were getting cloudier — his cataracts were growing, and surgery was likely. He was referred to our specialist eye team, and his owner elected for Sausage to have cataract surgery.

The results? Instant. His owner, Christian, said he could tell Sausage was happier on the drive home.

“I can't stress enough how much his quality of life has improved. He now follows me around the house again," he said.

Yesterday he came in for his two-week check with Dr Sarah and nurse Cassidy (pictured) — and even with the cone, he’s clearly loving being able to see again.

Samson came in for his weekly post-cataract surgery at recheck at our Canberra Vet Hospital location, accompanied—as always—by his trusty emotional support toy, Monkey. To help lift his spirits while he’s rocking the cone of shame, we made sure Monkey got one too! A little emotional support goes a long way in healing.

'All fluff and sunshine' - Moki's mother
This adorable giant cloud Moki was referred to us by Jerrabomberra Veterinary Hospital. Moki had an eye ulcer that was not healing despite a month of treatment and was causing him discomfort. When we examined him it turned out that he had entropian eyelids. An entropian is a common issue with the confirmation of the eyelids where they roll inwards and rub against the cornea. Dr Matt performed corrective surgery to shorten and reshape Moki's eye lids so they will no longer cause problems and let his ulcer heal.
Moki was such a good, happy, floofy boy for us and we loved having him for the day!
