Think exercise isn’t for you anymore? (Fortunately) that is simply just not true. In part III of our MYTH series, we look at some common misconceptions around exercising when older. 💪✨
“I’m too old” 👵👴
Good news - age is not a barrier! Muscles can grow, joints can move better, soft tissue can lengthen. It’s never too late to start training 🌱
“My joints hurt” 🦴
Arthritis and joint wear are common as you age but appropriate and tailored exercise can actually lubricate joints and reduce pain over time 🚶♀️
“I can’t do much” 🐢
That’s okay! Start small and go at your own pace. Your body will adapt even if its slow but little by little you’ll notice you can do more 👍
“I’m afraid of falling” ⚖️
Also a very normal part of getting older especially if you have fallen before. However, avoiding movement can increase this fear. Exercise builds strength & balance to help prevent falls 🛡️
“I have health problems” ❤️🫁
From heart and lung conditions to arthritis, Parkinson’s or stroke - exercise can be tailored to you and you can still receive all the benefits 🎯
“I get short of breath” 🌬️
The right exercise program (even for lung conditions like emphysema or COPD) can improve breathing and is one of the most effective ways to build endurance 💙
“I’m always tired” 😴
Decreased energy levels are normal as you age but small, regular movement can boost energy, improve sleep, lift mood, and reduce fatigue over time ☀️
“I’ve never been into exercise” 🤷♂️
Everyone starts somewhere! The hardest part is beginning - once you do, those feel good endorphins kick in and you may be surprised how great you feel 😄
👉 Move and Improve
It’s never too late, we promise!
