Holding space is such a crucial thing during labour and birth. As a midwife it is important to know when to sit on your hands and quietly, unobtrusively observe. This is when we often see birth unfold in its truest form.
Leti returned to The Nesting Hub to have her 4th baby, after birthing her 3rd baby at home with Gail & Kate. Leti felt confident and trusting of her body to birth her baby, and she was seeking another empowering, uninterrupted birth.
Leti spontaneously laboured at 38 weeks, taking us all by surprise. However, very conveniently starting labour prior to rush hour traffic, Gail and I made our way to Campbelltown, excited to welcome Leti's baby earthside.
Leti was surrounded by her 3 children, who were offering words of support and the occasional question "Mummy why are you making those noises?", "Mummy, can I have a snack", Leti who is used to 3 little people chatting away took it all in her stride. Partner Rich was rushing around filling pools and making snacks, quietly supporting Leti. Leti listened to her body and started to feel the urge to push, making her way into the pool where she settled in and let go. As Leti became more vocal, Gail and I came closer, offering words of support where needed but not bringing Leti out of labour land. Before long Leti was reaching down and bringing up her beautiful boy, he had a quick cry and then settled onto his mother's chest and was shortly greeted by his 3 VERY excited siblings. It was such a calm and precious moment, watching this family blossom and grow. I truly hope that we held the space for you Leti and that this birth was everything you had envisioned, how special to have Gail attend your birth once again, thank you for trusting me to fill such big midwife shoes.
What fun we had that day, it felt like a celebration after, the kids bouncing with excitement and asking about every detail that was unfolding, including asking continuously if they could see the "meat basket" (placenta) π, that's not one I will forget.
Leti, if baby number 5 decides to make an appearance, The Nesting Hub would love to hold space for you again.
