๐๐ Ever looked at your glasses prescription and thoughtโฆ what does all this mean?!
This JulEYE, weโre helping you make sense of your numbers โ because understanding your eye health matters.
Hereโs a plain-English breakdown of whatโs on your script:
๐น SPH (Sphere):
This tells us if youโre short-sighted (โ) or long-sighted (+). The higher the number, the stronger the prescription.
๐น CYL (Cylinder):
This means you have astigmatism โ where the eye is shaped more like a football than a basketball, causing blurred vision at certain angles.
๐น Axis:
This shows where the astigmatism is located on your eye โ like a clock face from 1ยฐ to 180ยฐ.
๐น ADD:
This is for multifocal or reading lenses, showing the extra power needed up close โ commonly used after age 40 when near focus becomes harder (presbyopia).
๐๏ธโ๐จ๏ธ Still unsure what it all means? Thatโs okay โ weโre here to explain your prescription, not just hand it to you.
๐๏ธ This JulEYE, book an eye test at Penshurst Eyecare and weโll take the time to walk you through every number โ no jargon.
