You may feel that new upside-down food pyramid doesn’t really make it clear what the updated dietary guidelines are trying to say. Let’s take a closer look at the details of The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
It emphasize returning to wholesome eating — focusing on real, minimally processed foods. They suggest prioritize high quality proteins, highlight more fruits, vegetables, choose whole grains, healthy fats, adequate fibre while limiting added sugar and refined carbohydrates. Maintaining good hydration and supporting gut health also important.
Saturated fat should still stay under 10% of daily intake, significantly reduce highly processed foods, and choose lean animal protein and plant based protein can help achieve this goal. Protein intake increases to a range from 1.2–1.6 g per kg of body weight, a target that most people already meet.
These guidelines provide the public with general recommendations. However, a personalized approach to nutrition should be emphasized to account for individual needs and goals.
