Message to our Community 💙
Our hearts are with the Bondi and Jewish community during this deeply painful time. We acknowledge the profound loss, shock and heartbreak being felt at this time. We acknowledge the impact on first responders - the police, paramedics, healthcare workers and others who stood to protect and care for others.
Acts of terrorism have a far-reaching effect beyond those who were directly involved. Many people may experience strong emotional reactions such as anger, fear, numbness, confusion or sadness. These emotions are natural responses to a distressing event and there is no 'right' way to feel.
It's important to acknowledge what you're feeling and put supportive strategies in place to protect your mental wellbeing such as:
▪️ Limit exposure to news and social media - continuous exposure to distressing images can heighten anxiety and stress. Also be mindful of sharing images with others.
▪️ Allow space for your emotions - your reactions are valid whether you were directly involved or impacted from afar.
▪️ Lean into community and connection - staying connected can foster safety and support.
▪️ Ground yourself in routine and care - this can help regulate your nervous system during times of heightened stress.
▪️ Seek professional support - if distress feels overwhelming or begins to interfere with daily life, seeking support early is vital.
If you are feeling distressed or overwhelmed, we're here to support you. Call us on 1300 122 144 or email kellyville@aurorahealth.com.au
